How much sea life grows at that depth? Did you ever see pictures of the Titanic, once they found it? Sure, it had some growth on it, but not that much. And that was after close to 100 years.

These would be pulled out of the ocean on the same or next day of flight.

NASA had a plan, and re-usability was part of it. Sure they want to finish a project - there are a lot of very dedicated people working on these projects. Unfortunately, the controllers of the purse strings are only dedicated to getting re-elected. :(

Private companies do change the game - and perhaps the game changed faster than NASA could react. (NASA is not the same organization it was during the Apollo program - unfortunately.)

Someone else did figure out the hard parts - that would be NASA.

The pollution I was thinking about was all of the decomposing petroleum distillates in the plastics and rubber. Maybe even the heat shielding. I know the metals would be fine, I've seen old naval vessels sunk to promote coral growth. Even then, they are cleaned of all fluids, grease, paint, etc before being sunk.

Fortunately, there is very little fuel remaining in the booster. Not none, but very little.

Unfortunately, yes there are plastics and rubber and some other exotic metals...

This is looking like Super heavy's grid fin ring. I wonder if those protruding brackets have something to do with how they are going to catch it. Are we going to see a super heavy hop and catch before they go orbital? I hope so!

Agree that that NASA is completely beholden to Congress. Way too many constitutes/jobs in their home states tied to NASA to stop a program like SLS. Almost a "too big to fail" type situation.

Would be interesting to see NASA do exclusively robotic missions (space wise) and direct funding to private companies for manned missions. Share holders demand results. Constitutes only require jobs not be eliminated.

A solid work ethic. When I went ME in the 80's the attrition rate among freshmen was about 30%. That's about how it hit my dorm floor. About 2 months in guys started packing up and leaving. It continued unabated through the end of our freshman year. Of the one's that didn't outright leave, many more switched majors. The thing I noticed about most of these guys (90% of engineering students are guys BTW) is they were probably smarter than me.

5 years later (I co-oped all 5 years so it was a 5 year program) I had an engineering degree and they didn't.

Only difference was I made up my mind early on that I was going to go to class and do the work. Anyone that signs up for an engineering curriculum and isn't committed to working hard is doomed to repeat their freshman year somewhere else.

I've known people with tens of thousands in debt from college who were only concerned about their grade while they were there. Now we have so many people who are smart on paper, but lack the actual skills because they cheated themselves into a mortgage for that piece of paper.

I don't even know what that means. "Smart on paper". I work with engineers every day. These are some of the smartest people you will ever come across. That being said, I've run into several "less-than-stellar-critical thinkers" over the years who call themselves engineers, or may even have a job with "engineer" in the title...but they didn't make it through a recognized engineering program and earn a degree.

I’ve seen many that have gone through a recognized program & still aren’t worth a Hoot. :tinfoilhat: They won’t even admit they dropped the ball until you corner ‘em. Nothin’ worse than not admittin’ when your wrong.

Yawn. Sorry. I've been listening to technicians run down engineers for 4 decades now. You're boring me.

Go teach a young engineer something important today Eddy. It's more productive than expecting them to know everything their second day on the job. I'll go thank a technician for the great work they do.

    Fair?

Long ago there was a book called “Troubleshooting Refinery Operations”. One section was very condescending with regards to operations and maintenance staff.

It likened the folks to uneducated children who were easily manipulated. In one part it says when visiting the site one should bring a gift, such as a box of donuts.

For decades when every time a salesman, consultant or engineer would show up with donuts I’d just say “I see you’ve read Lieberman”

The older engineers just laughed and grabbed a donut and cup of coffee. The young ones usually fled in terror.

There were several more areas where Lieberman’s distain for non engineers is apparent.

It’s been years since I left that industry but I still have my well thumbed and coffee stained copy of that book. Lieberman was an ass but he did know the engineering involved if not how to respect others.

Good Book. I like the Reeds Series that’s designed for the Marine Engineer studying at sea. Well written.
