    Hey Phil,
Thanks for your observations and insights

His dad is a civil engineer who went on earn his PE. I know he instilled a strong work ethic and I hope his son took it to heart. I don’t think he has rose colored glasses but it’s something I can follow up with. HS to college can be a tough transition no matter what the major.

    Good stuff. Much appreciated :hattip:

I don't know much but I do know there are intelligent people performing blue collar jobs just the same as there are morons at the highest levels of the work force. Nothing shocks me anymore.

It shouldn't surprise anyone paying attention, but Nasa is the wokest of all Federal entities. Nasa is no longer where the best aspire to get to, it's relegated to being a gravy train for those that aspire to do absolutely nothing, day to day. The best engineers are contractors for Nasa, X, Blue, ULA, Boeing, Jacobs, Northrup that are out there working on the edge of what spacecraft are capable of.

Looks like a Jeep. Not useful enough to haul anything, especially if they keep driving around looking for people to wave at.

Not to start a urinary olympiad -

While your comments are definitely in the right direction, I think your generalizations go a little too far. There are still some (OK, only a few) really good people at NASA, but they are handcuffed in what they can do.

Also, the contracting companies have a lot of employees that ride the gravy train as well. While some contractors are very capable, some are not.

Unfortunately, all that behavior is caused/sanctioned by our gov't - politicians who care more about being re-elected than what is best for our country/society.

I certainly miss the NASA of the Apollo days. Of course, there were political issues then as well. But pretty much everyone working on the space program wanted to be there - to build the best.

Which is why it is great for private companies to be handling the transportation side of things. They have more accountability. NASA will be able to focus on smaller/cheaper projects like satellite telescopes and rovers. Which is great, because the way things are going it's all they're going to have room in their budget for soon.

I could see the Chinese bringing one back as a shots fired move in the little Cold War that seems to be simmering again for now.

I mean, they are making a starship knockoff... I wonder how much they are paying attention to the YouTube videos that are documenting SpaceX's progress. I mean all they're really getting is a look at the hull, but any research someone else does for you is money and time you don't have to invest. And considering the quality of the cgi in their announcement, that's probably a good thing, for them.

    Announcement?

    A Chinese Starship?

If that’s the case, are they skipping over their knockoff of the F9?

    Maybe they’ll do better than:

    B9D32FEE-58CC-4E77-9174-473238DB0319.jpg

The timeframes in the video extend far enough that we and our allies might be multi planetary by then.

Probably be good to have other players in the game if we’re gonna live in The Expanse.
