    Engine seemed to extinguish midflight,,then tried to relight itself at first indications. Copliot was found still in his seat wrapped in structure. Major injuries to the pilot,,who ejected.


    Sad day for Virgin Galactic.

    Weird thing is that there is no ejection seat of any kind on this vehicle. There is an escape port but speculation is that the survivor was thrown from the vehicle. It is possible he may have made it to the escape port. And yes, the co-pilot was found still in his seat. P.S.     Just a few LEDs...
    I just read that this was a 40 year old Russian rocket engine that was known to have problems and this same type of engine had 4 failed launch attempts between 1969 and 1972. The company that supplied them was thinking about retiring them as well. Hmmm. I guess you get what you pay for. :rolleyes:

    I sure would be pretty pissed off if my multi million dollar payload was destroyed because someone decided to use a faulty 40 year old Russian built POS rocket that was already known to blow up on the launch pad. :eek:

    Damn right someone lost their job! I'm sure they got "fired":bananadead: (pun intended) :rolleyes:

    Had a phone call earlier today. Looks like the HL-20/Dream Chaser is going to fly and be a reality. Full funding went thru to Sierra Nevada apparently.

    So long as the winds stay down,,it's a go for Orion and the awesome Delta 4 Heavy tomorrow AM.

    Supposedly they are going to turn it around after 2 laps, ram it back home, and create a steeper entry attitude,,put some extra heat on the shield.

    Got to get up at 4am to see it here.
