Technically, we’re the ones that got lazy about pronunciation since “i “ is really there. You don’t say Helum, Selenum, Lithum, Sodum, etc.

I like the sound of aluminium more but aluminum is so ingrained I can't stop myself from saying it.

Noah Webster was an American so of course he went with local usage and that’s what ended up in schools here. Translations and definitions are often at the whim of the translator/publisher. The rest of the world uses “ium”. Different periodic tables use one or the other. Being American I use aluminum but had I stayed in British schools any longer it could have been otherwise. A few more years and I might have been grounded in the metric system, that would’ve been worth getting teased over the odd emphasis and an extra “i “ when we moved back. The one that is truly lame is the use of nucular instead of nuclear. When supposedly well educated people use it, :facepalm:I begin to doubt their prowess.

Nah, SpaceX brought that one up. It’s only $200!

There's also mass balancing. I remember reading an article where things like notebooks, pencils, and small personal effects would make it onto ISS supply missions as balance mass within whatever was carrying it up. Not a big deal in a space shuttle, but in some of the small autonomous ones a couple of books might be exactly what they need to balance the capsule weight once loaded. The more even the weight, the less math involved in gimbaling the launch and SAS system for a successful flight.

SpaceX hasn't brought it down that low yet. Their cost is still $2,700 per kg/2.2lbs to orbit.
