Thanks for the explanation @PzTank about this star link I saw Friday and Saturday. I told the kids it was Santa making a test run with a new deer after prancer got shot :D

Sorry for the crappy photos, they don't do it justice. It looked like a line of small fires glowing and not touching. It was cool.

:hattip:. It’s all good stuff! No apologies needed.

I’m glad you and your kids are enjoying the night sky!

That’s awesome! It’s an amazing time to be interested in this kind of stuff:rocket:

The Heavens Above site I posted in your thread has all sorts of object (man made and not) you can plan to look for.

Related to the ISS, in the next couple of years, Axiom, a private company, will be adding on to it so it will brighten each time they add a module, something to track maybe…

    Hypothetical for y’all:

US and Russian relations deteriorate to the point diplomacy is cut off and the ISS crew need to stay on their own sides.

How do we get Mark Ven De Hei off the ISS? 5th seat in a Dragon?
Have a planned extended double Expedition for one crew member?
    Other Thoughts?

I’d expect unrelated points of contact would be more strained but not cut off as well. So much of that is posturing.

I'd guess someone gets bumped off of Crew 4 so there's an empty seat, and someone gets an extra long stay on ISS to ride down on said empty seat. That said, I'm sure that if there were some urgency to it SpaceX could rustle up an extra crew dragon flight.

EDIT - that said, I'd highly doubt any changes would impact his return flight, I just wouldn't expect that many ride-share flights in the future.

Won’t work, they are moving at orbital velocity which means centrifugal force equals force due to gravity and the rope would not have any particular direction. Try to climb it in any direction and since your mass exceeds that of the rope it would move a lot and you would move very little. Push would have to be very hard(like spin launch hard) to shed enough velocity to end up dirt side. Push is called a de-orbit burn.
