Carving up the moon is a ways away but it could be a land rush like OK or CA if something gets found to make the trip worthwhile. Realistically though, Antarctic lack of development is probably less due to any agreement than the very real difficulty in operating there. In spite of EM’s dreams it will take concrete results to entice commercial development.

It will be the same challenges with the moon. There's lots of talk about commercial opportunities but until someone actually follows through with a long term plan to extract resources, let alone using it as a stop over for longer missions, it'll just be a couple of science outposts with a few dozen scientists doing science stuff.

That was mainly my point. There will be claims made and some international agreement freezing those claims, but they'll mean little to nothing until someone proves the moon is a viable commercial target.

Antarctica isn’t widely developed because there’s nothing to make money off it now. Continued climate change might change that and make it the only winter type climate to vacation to. Lift tickets for the Ellsworth Range only $100,000.

The moon’s lower gravity might open the door for expanded travel through the inner solar system for exploration/resource exploitation. Bigger spaceships that only operate in space. Different types of drives being developed. Materials experiments.

There’s a lot of stuff going on out there, we just need to learn what it is.

Which is something like 4x further out than Mars and really toasty from Jupiter’s radiation.

I wonder how different life would have turned out if we had made contact in 2010?
