They usually aren't terribly interesting. The chopper just has a big hook extended down and they gaff it.

You kinda gotta be careful about what you say working in the industry. ITAR is weird. NSF and EA can sit there and release gorgeous shots of rockets and rocket parts and have no problems. But if I posted pics like that of the parts i've been making lately i could get fired, or worse. I've worked at a shop where someone was arrested for stealing specs. It's unlikely to happen, but the fact that it does makes you worried enough to second guess it. I've worked at shops in the past that advised all their employees not to even tell their family or friends the name of the customers. Then again i've worked for shops where anyone could just walk in from the street, grab parts, specs, computers, and walk back out without being seen or talked to. I've worked at shops that had top secret areas, not even allowed to have a phone on you, and if you did manage to sneak one in and someone caught you... well that result is above. And then i've worked at shops where the boss is sitting right next to you while you're taking pictures like below. It's kinda a crapchute, but the risks can be severe.

Even rumors? And he posted a picture of 1066. How would that get Hunter in trouble?

Depends. Lets say he had some insight into Spacex making something big. He mentions it, it gets to someone and explodes into something bigger, then someone up high wants accountability? Then yeah, they'll find a neck to hang. A lot of the security of aerospace tech is in the fact that no one shop makes everything. In order for a country like Russia, Iran, China, etc to copy it, they either need someone with direct access to say Spacex's servers, or need to figure out where ALL the components are made and infiltrate those smaller companies to steal the specs from them. It's a lot of work, but considering that no other company has launched and landed 5 commercial payloads, let alone 100, if you dont think they're trying you're crazy. You mention a name on the interwebs of a rocket or part and knowledge of it. A spy finds out where you work, and applies to get a job there, gets hired, and now BAM you helped the chinese pirate starship. I've had a few shops give me "training" that went along those general lines. And since that risk is theoretically a reality, the punishment is too. Aerospace is a good field. Shops are always in need of people, which gives the employee (me) the power in the relationship. Means livable pay, benefits, job security, and job availability. Few want to risk that, especially for something as simple as a rumor + it's potential on the internet. 3-6 likes just isn't worth the risk to them. That's why I chose a photo of a part that's a few years old, no real company identifying marks, no visible travelers, no visible people. Minimized risk.

Reality is you could probably get away with telling significant details and be fine. I could tell you guys about the rocket parts I was making today, who they were for, my opinions on them, etc. Nothing would likely come of it. Likely.

The picture I posted today is the same picture hundreds of people took touring KSC in a tour bus as it moved from the port to their booster refurb facility.

The chinese are definitely trying to steal technology, I get emails from Nasa all the time about sensitive vs non sensitive, classified vs non. Because so many people are working from home on a vpn information is definitely being pirated. Believe that we are doing the same.

Nothing I post is even close to being sensitive, much less classified. I've got decades to go before I cash out.

    You're bound. Press is not.

If I'm ever bound by an agreement, I may repost someone else's work but that's about it... and even then it's kinda an explicit endorsement of that work.

I worked at this one shop, some crackheads cut through the back chain link, took the ramp off one of the delivery trucks to bridge the ditch by the fence, and then used the rolling carts on the shop property to steal large pipes for a rocket tower. 12" diameter approx, 1” thick inconel, 12' long. Took 6 of them. So the shop seals the hole in the fence by replace the compromised section with a nice new sheet metal fence. A couple weeks later they go to the edge of the sheet metal fence and do the same thing over again. This time they replaced the whole fence. A couple weeks later the theifs hotwire the large flatbed truck in the neighboring shop's lot, drive it through the fence, load the parts onto that, and drive through the gate. They hired a security guard after that... unfortunately I don't work there now, so don't know if it continued on or they stopped it.
