Edit - I do really wonder how long it'll be until they kill a load of passengers. Just such an inherently unsafe system.

 

I think VG would be more fun than BO. That said, not going to be a paying passenger in either. Maybe I can go scrub toilets in one of the LEO space habs or something.

2 more flights in Dragon doing a ton of research on how to make it in space. Altruistically? For humanity? Personal glory?


Then the first crewed Starship flight. All on Jared’s dime.

Is he an agent of SpaceX now? A partner? Investor? All of the above?

What about the half SpaceX crew?

Are they that optimistic Starship’s gonna fly so soon?

 

To be honest, if I had a billion dollars and the health to repeatedly go to space, I would do something very similar to what Isaacman is doing. It's a way to forward human exploration in space, test new technologies, etc., all while getting to go to space repeatedly. He gets to be famous, for a historically favorable reason.

I really wonder about the Starship flight, though - they're planning to launch and land on the Starship, and Elon had said something like 100 Starship launches before they try to put people on it, so either we'll see a lot of Starship launches pretty quick, or the last Polaris mission won't be for a while.

 

For as rapid as F9 launches, they only are just now at 100+ launches. They really will have to do 3 a week to get to 100 launches in a year.

 

$10 says they don’t make it to 30 Starship launches before crewed flights.

If it’s successful, they’ll fast track it.

 

Exciting to anticipate but it’s not just a bigger version of something else but an entirely new everything that still has to prove it can fly. Then prove it can land. Then prove each aspect

Nothing general about that public. VG is a longer ride but maybe something special about going ballistic the whole way for the more authentic experience.

 

I’m curious what regulatory agencies have to say about it. For that matter, what sort of approvals do you have to get before launching your own employees/partners on test flights?
I’d guess we will see at least 100 starship flights before they try to launch and land people on it, and we’ll see at least one “Stage 0” RUD on a failed landing, with some major redesigns of Stage 0 that come from it.

 

I think the starship one is aspirational.

Plus, they're gonna be doing a lot of starlink launches and fueling launches.

As long as they get confident with superheavy catch attempts in say.. under 10 launches, a starship is only 6-9 raptor 2s. Yeet it, launch payload, test EDL over hawaii. Once they're confident with EDL then they'll go for landing (of tankers) .. then the crew, then the test moon launch (with refuels), then dear moon .. Once they have tankers/space refueling down they can demo HLS. (This could happen prior to EDL tbh)
