Then again there’s so called dirty bombs that accentuate the nastiness or neutron bombs that kill but do less structural damage and em pulses that just fry electronics. We make all kinds of mayhem. An air burst releases in all directions, both shockwave and radiation. The shockwave is only limited to damage on the ground because there’s nothing for it to damage above unless you’re in a plane and too close and the radiation towards the ground can’t spreads out the way it does in any other direction. It’s not that there’s less radiation but that those with the highest exposure have been incinerated anyway.

How many people live near Chernobyl or Fukushima now?

Anyone know the prevalence of cancer cases pre and post Trinity?

There are still a few thousand in the fallout zone of Chernobyl. You can find a ton of videos on YouTube of people going into the zone, with radiation meters too. For the most part nature has retaken the area with plant and animal life striving. Of course the tv series would have you believe its a radiated desert wasteland that will never support any life though.

And to that point, the fissile material in a nuclear weapon is quite small compared to what is in a reactor that melts down.

Like most everything else, it's a matter of interpretation and there's opinions on both sides of the argument.

Prolly shouldn't have brought it up in the first place. Hope we never have to find out.

We are. Not likely to succeed in making it lifeless but eminently capable of making it less desirable.

There are a lot of species that have gone extinct, many of them do to their own over consumption/destruction of an area/resource. If we're stupid enough to push it to that point, despite or because of our "superior" intellect, then we deserve our fate. Maybe the next species that moves out of it's natural habitat and gains the power of intellect by eating magic mushrooms will do better than we did.

How many watch it happen and knowingly do it anyway. We have self awareness but lack self control.
Odds are against every species in the long run. We have proven to be extremely adaptable though in everything but long term choices.

Well, the ones in Blade Runner were. They couldn't show more or it would increase the rating.
