I'll find out tomorrow but one valve being left closed is a super duper eff up. Sounding like a relief valve about the size of my hand with helium rolling through it being left closed would've over pressurized a panel and blown a burst disk not allowing full pressure to be built in that section.

The process for putting a system in a posture to fill cryo is not willy nilly one person going up and spinning valves. We would have typically 6-8 people doing this, 3 system technicians, 3 system engineers and the lead cryo engineer and possibly our Nasa counterpart tagging along.

Everything is very formal, engineer calls out "step 40A reads open valve F318960 and position it in a fully open counterclockwise position"

Technician answers "now opening valve F318960 full counter"

I was suprised they started filling lox first, Sls requires almost 2 to 1 more lh2 than Lox. Guess it doesn't matter if its all being vented anyways.

To protect the integrity of the vacuum on the tank, no.

Not sure but as expensive as helium is, I would guess more gn2 than He.

This was kinda cool for anybody who has not been there in person, but would like to see it virtually.

My grandfather flew the C-124 shown at 4:15. He was the acceptance pilot, and ended up flying all of them. His last flight in one ended badly in Newfoundland, coming back from Greenland, but everyone survived the "last landing."

Good to hear that everyone survived! Pretty awesome that you have a connection to one of the aircraft there. That museum is pretty awesome. I got to visit there a few years back and got to see pretty much all of the aircraft that wanted to see in real life there with the exception of the Spruce Goose which I saw on a trip to Oregon
