The Skylab module, which was built from a Saturn V 3rd stage (or Saturn 1B 2nd stage) was launched from a Saturn V. Due to the weight, and required orbit, the 1B could not launch the space station.

The rocket in the background is a Saturn V, not a 1B. To launch on those platforms, the 1B sat on a tall pedestal, which you could see in the pic if it was there.

Also, the 1st stage of the 1B is comprised of a series of Redstone rockets, so looking at it you see 8 (or 9?) round tubes around the circumference of the rocket, as opposed to the single round tube of the V.

Unfortunately, no, not at this time. I pulled it off Reddit. I’ll do some digging though. It’s a cool pic!

I was really into the space program as a kid, so I knew lots and lots of details. Also, my Dad worked at NASA.

I'm not into the current program nearly as much, even though I worked at NASA for a while. Politics and risk aversion and incessant delays have really soured my opinion on the current goings on.

We are supporting fueling ops of the Nilesat 301 mission this weekend and the week upcoming. I'm proud to play a small role in providing wifi for parts of Africa.
