Read a little today about the LHC at Cern. Pretty crazy it's so sensitive that they have to "manually" correct the beam because of the moon's gravitation can affect it. I think I saw somewhere it's getting turned back on July 5th after they had it down for a while for upgrades and maintenance. They're looking for the 5th dimension I guess.

I appreciate their effort, but not actually putting things to scale really bugs me.

EDIT - ahh I think I missed what they were doing with the person-scale, my apologies. Still bugged they're not all laid 'flat' in the same plane, but that's a minor dig in comparison. Starship is gonna be HUGE

I understand. I kept looking at the tick mark of a person to see if three of them could fit in the tip of the Soyuz. I concluded yes, yes they could considering the sardine can it is :D

I am by no means an expert but I don’t think it works that way.

Once certified, i think it’s certified until it shows it’s not certified.

For example, you might remember the test flight where the F9 exploded in flight after the Dragon was released. (Couldn’t find a gif on google??) That was the second abort test for the Dragon. The first was a test on the pad.

Spx hasn’t continued to do these tests because the launch abort system had been certified and there’s no reason to suspect it wouldn’t operate as designed.

Then maybe I'm thinking of something else, the LAS is the rocket on top of Orion.

I remember when I was watching the first rollout of SLS after the valve corrosion issue, and NSF was talking about a system that blows up the rocket if something should go terribly wrong. They were saying that NASA only has a short window of opportunity to do a WDR and launch after this system is certified, or it has to be re-certified and it pushes the launch back another set period of time.

Or, I'm just a confused old man mashing things together in his brain and it only makes sense to him. :notsure: 50/50, really.

    Two different systems.
    1. Launch Abort - needed for crew capsules (the Shuttle didn’t have one)
    2. Rocket Fail-Safe - needed for wayward rockets
I think your thinking of the Fail-Safe (might have a different term :notsure:

It's the Flight Termination System. Here is what I was talking about.

    https://spaceflightnow.com/2022/04/24/nasa-sls-artemis-1-return-to-vab/

The USSF only certifies that system for 20 days.

I must have been as well. Only been a week into my early 30's and already I feel the mind slipping away.
