Re: F9 landing with a Dragon on top - the dragon is mounted to S2, which isn't built to withstand landing stress. Also, a good amount of the rigidity of a F9 is from the rocket being pressurized - more mass on top will change the needed strength of the s1 upon landing. That's a lot of stuff that'll need validation. Living in the S1/S2 interstage for a day or two in a spacesuit might be a little easier to validate, lol.

The ASTS idea is their sat would connect to existing, non-sat phones. They wouldn't deal direct to the public, they'd deal with providers. The consumer's phone could switch from ground cells to satellite without the consumer ever knowing it.

This upcoming launch is just a test sat.

I'll be at work the first 3 windows, just a matter of where I'll be watching from. I wanted to be on the roof of the VAB but its sounding like safety is keeping that closed off. That's everyone's best spot.

Truth be told, I figured you would be there watching... :p

If I make it down there, I'll be on a beach somewhere.

KSC is selling launch watch tickets, but they're 7 miles away.

When I saw Apollo 13 liftoff as a kid, we were about 3 miles away.

Wow. At the Pad 39 site where the countdown clock is? Cool memories for sure!!

I won’t be heading down. Got to see STS-122 in person which was a bucket list. Being up in NE, major launches are so uncertain with scrubs and all…. I’d be there in a heartbeat if I was local.

Unrelated, what a gift Saturn is right in our own backyards:

The launch passes I saw, which were sold out by the time I read the email, were $250 at the viewing tower where A/B split. I'd say a max of 200 people there.

At this point the billions of wasted dollars might as well go towards a good light and sound show for at least a couple of launches.

Yes, but given the parties involved it could still be 2 years before it launches so no....
