    Really tragic how fast Ian strengthened in the short period after crossing Cuba. I didn’t imagine it could push such a strong surge but I didn’t think of it getting a boost from the tide, the timing couldn’t have been worse.
    Looks like they made the right calls on SLS. Keeping it at the pad allowed them to still launch if Ian went elsewhere and would have saved several weeks but bringing it in had to be done and that pretty much spelled out the timeline from then on.
    I agree with NASA’s assessment(not that it matters) not to do SH catches initially at 39a due to the risk to crew dragon infrastructure so it appears that pad 40 may get upgraded to perform F9 crew launches but even with that SH launches won’t be happening at KSC until Starship is proven reliable(according to Spacex). At that point where would they catch them? With tower 3 parts already accumulating at Robert’s Rd I’ve heard of a few different possibilities but I’m guessing it depends on whether reducing risk or creating a 3rd fully functional launch/recovery facility is the goal. F9 landing pad makes sense for low risk and less cost than a drone ship(make that big ass drone ship). Pad 40 would essentially duplicate 39a if both get the upgrades but the risk gets duplicated as well while adding redundancy. Modified oil rig is still an option that eliminates any F9 concerns altogether as well as NASA concerns about KSC infrastructure and probably many though not all FAA concerns but has the most work involved to get set up. Not the least of which would be where to keep fuel and how to transport/dock it. Tanker ships might actually be an advantage since they eliminate road hazards and can be done with a single vessels. Getting Starships to it would be much the same as going from Boca Chica to port Canaveral so that doesn’t seem a restriction. So where does tower 3 get planted?
