Your post had 2 quotes but no other content.

When I quoted it, it came up as an empty quite so I was wondering if you got tagged. Apparently you did not :D

My name is Rahl and I both posted links to the Fondag info page. It’s the special concrete that was used to repair the slab under the OLM. The info page reads more like an add than a complete list of instructions and specs and since it is mixed with water and poured just like regular concrete he and I seem to disagree on how to weight different paragraphs in it. It refers to a wide range of applications so I’m not sure if the cure times for each of those applications is the same 8-10 hrs. To me “as early as” implies circumstances that require more time, possibly much more.

I quoted my post with the link to the fondag and your post asking what fondag is, so you could find out for yourself.

It’s surprising how little information is available on its use as a refractory concrete. Hardness and abrasion resistance after so much time but not a thing on temperature/time. I'm skeptical because there’s always residual moisture for weeks and wiki lists high humidity and excess initial moisture as causes for conversion failure. The initial compressive strength is believable but I have a hard time believing thermal shock resistance comes before it’s fully dried out.

Unless the surface dries out first and is an acceptable heat resistant barrier for the inner cement?

My skepticism tells me that would just lead to steam generated under that surface. If you look at the macgregor raptor tests the exhaust plume is white but at starbase it keeps showing the color of blasted concrete. Even if there was less visible debris raining than before if it’s just surface dust and sand it should change to white towards the end of the tests but it never does even with the new fondag. Maybe the wear is enough less to avoid throwing chunks around but first thing they did after the test was replace 2 more engines and there was at least some debris visible in the videos along with 2 small fires started. In my line I frequently come across work that wasn’t done properly with shortcuts taken and countless times I’ve bought products that had poor reviews that were seemingly based on bad prep, lack of skill or experience , impatience, or simply not reading and following instructions. I don’t expect Spacex to be automatically immune from those mistakes. What I do expect is that they’ll learn from this more willingly than most. You can’t court failure as they do without that ability.

I’ve always been fascinated by space. Especially the vastness of it and how it (probably) never ends, which is difficult to even comprehend. I was trying to explain to my wife, who absolutely does not believe that there is any other life out there other than what’s on this planet, how it is naive to think life doesn’t exist elsewhere by saying if you got into your homemade spaceship that was capable of traveling at the speed of 999 trillion light years per millisecond, and just kept going for 999 trillion years, you’d still be traveling thru space passing planets and solar systems we will NEVER know about. It’s impossible there isn’t life out there. Even if that life is like a tiny water bug, it’s still life. And it’s alien life at that. But there must be intelligent life out there too. Space is infinite and there are probably many planets out there capable of supporting life that are so far apart from each other that they too will never know about other planets with life on them

I do agree with the exhaust plumes. However, I feel like that might have to do with the height of the OLM versus the height of the vertical Raptor test stand at McGregor.

Time will tell I guess. They’ve been addressing issues so they’ll get this resolved if it isn’t already.

In a galaxy long, long ago and far, far away. To me it’s a moot point since I only have a vested interest in our species and the equally amazing flora and fauna of this place. I’m entranced with the notion of being able to spread through the stars but it can’t happen if we screw the pooch before we have the chance to get started. Call me a tree hugger if it makes your day but if life is so hard to find you’d think we’d take better care of the only planet's worth we know about.
