Do you guys get the ARS Rocket Report? From last Friday’s edition:
Starship orbital launch will slip into 2023. SpaceX has not said anything official, but based on a couple of conversations, I think SpaceX has a reasonable chance of making Starship's orbital launch during the first quarter of 2023. There are no guarantees, and there still is a lot of work to do. But they're making progress. I can say for certain that an orbital launch attempt this year is off the table.

Protect the tower, please ... Another thing I would note is that SpaceX has moved on from the "cowboy" phase of rocketry development in South Texas, when there was a higher tolerance of risk and failure during Starship prototype testing in 2021. This means the company is moving more slowly and deliberately. With the expensive launch tower, in particular, it is taking more time to increase its chances of success with the first launch of the Super Heavy booster and its Starship upper stage.

I don't get the ARS report, but I follow several other rocket reporting places. I know the OFT won't happen this month.

If they do put up more cladding, it will only be at the middle and top. They will add the rest at a later date.

At this point they need to have a starship ready to stack for the flight test. If they keep having to replace engines because of damage caused by flying debris they’ll never get there. If they have the time now they should do it now. With time available it makes no sense to put hardware on the tower at risk by leaving cladding off and that goes double for the complex systems visible around the catwalk of the OLM. I can see leaving it exposed through the static fire phase but not for a launch.

Maybe they’ll do a partial Raptor liftoff (say 20 engines) for the Orbital Test to minimize damage to the mount and tower.

I don’t think they need the full thrust for a relatively empty Starship - even if they test out the pez dispenser.

The cladding on the legs is almost complete, S24 may static fire it's new engine today. I see a potential B7 rollout either tonight and a full stack happening tomorrow. I think this because of the Highway 4 road closures today and tomorrow. I figure they will spend much of the rest of the month finalizing systems on the OLM and connections to the new mission control at the Massey site so they can do a 33 engine SF the last of the month.
I don't see them only using 20 engines for the OFT. We're only damage to the OLM because the booster is staying put, once it starts to liftoff, the exhaust will move away taking the damaging forces with it.

This is pretty cool. Multiple overlapping benefits.

Also works with a bromide ion battery story I was reading about; while the bromide batteries are larger and less energy-dense than lithium ion batteries, they're much cheaper to make and main than all other battery types and environmentally friendly.

    Win/win.

Just figure that all of the geothermal activity is allowing for the pressure and heat to be released in a controlled manner. So if all of the stuff in the park stops the risk of an eruption increases.
