But they don't need 100% o2. We have an entire planet with multiple o2 generation techniques and the atmosphere is only 21% o2. And there are other ways to generate o2 as well. Hydrogen conversion is one. Oxygen candles are another. Neither of which requires rare elements. In the end though, plants will provide the vast amount of it for one simple reason. If you think it takes a lot of plants to provide enough o2, it's going to require more to produce enough food. Iirc it takes about 40 acres of farmland to support a single person with food perpetually. Hydroponics doesn't really change that fact, it just goes vertical as opposed to horizontal.

Sure 70% is nitrogen but to us that’s basically inert anyway. It’s the loss rate of O2 I’m discussing. Earth has its own recycling systems but for an orbital station or ship not fully recovering you have to keep adding oxygen. It has nothing to do with the percentage relative to nitrogen. Every carbon monoxide molecule and most of the carbon dioxide is lost since being toxic it has to be removed.
Food stuffs are a similar problem. I’m not ignoring it, just looking at just the breathable air and what it takes to be self sustaining for now. On the moon where you can extract O2 from ice or Mars using that or a Moxie type generator it’s not an issue, just scrub the CO2 and replace the used O2. CO and CO2 have to be either converted or removed above certain percentages. ISS requires resupply of O2 from Earth. We could bring enough along for a trip to Mars but as the length of a voyage increases so does the need for more complete recycling of resources. The same applies to habitats where population increases the load on environmental systems. Sustainability and how to achieve and prolong it in each system is ultimately what will allow us to travel farther and stay longer.

Used to work with a moon hoaxer. When he first brought it up I was like WTF?! Growing up with an uncle who was an actual engineer working on the moon project the thought of a hoax had never entered my mind. But, I decided to visit him in his rat hole and asked him for his proof. It amounted to some videos of the astronauts walking around that he said proved it was a sound stage. Needless to say after I shredded his "proof" he still "had questions".

He taught me that conspiracy theory is a religion. You could launch him in a rocket to the moon and let him walk around and he would still think the moon landings were a hoax.

Oh yeah, have a coworker that is into ALL of the top conspiacy theories and I've come to the same conclusion that no proof will alter their opinion. So I've started playing a game where you can bounce one theory off another to compound the hysteria, much to the amusement of our other coworkers.

I say bring it. Competition breeds efficiency and by default higher wages. I haven't seen those slcs in years but I can't imagine there is much salvageable infrastructure but that may be what they all want. Start from scratch. Where's x gonna land boosters?

While I don't really believe any, I do enjoy a GOOD conspiracy theory. One of my new favorite YouTube channels is all about them. It reminds me of Ripley's believe it or not. Gives you the conspiracy, then the real facts all in a very entertaining way. Covers some of the good ones, Roswell, thor, hollow moon. It's called The Why Files.

They may want to do something to the olm and the clamps that involves removing it. Or they want to test another SH booster while awaiting those items that precede the actual launch attempt. Having it just sit there when there are other things they could be doing isn’t their mo. If they have ships further along in the process they need boosters to go with them and the olm is the only place for that unless they add more to ex gun range facility. Once they start launching they’re going to want to keep doing so to learn what can only be learned in flight.

There is still work being done to the olm. They might not want to risk damage to the booster while that's happening.

One thing I like about SpaceX is they treat their facilities like a shop. A while back there were videos showcasing both SpaceX and Blue Origin's next gen rocket. Both videos had shots of the shops. SpaceX's shop looked like a shop that did work. BO looked like an operating room, and they had custom covers made to keep dust off their parts. The flip side is that you have to move things to prevent loose nuts, bolts, concrete splashes, grinding dust, etc from entering places it doesn't belong. Its also good practice moving the booster, since they want to do it heaps anyways. Better to find possible problems early on.
