No need to apologize. I can’t recall a discussion about Boca Chica area real estate speculation..

    Because it would make gateway
look too pathetically small. I think they should hook up the first unmanned HLS to gateway and use it for free fall activities, maybe round room hand ball or anything that lets one stretch out and get a sense of freedom. With several decks there’s a lot of options. Might get a sense of the psychological affect of having more room.

Because Starship HLS is nearly 10 times the size of Gateway and would really drive home the point of how silly Gateway will look comparatively.
From what I gather, Starbase will be the main launch point for Starship, until they get the FL Starfactory and the Starship launch complex at 39A completed. Then Starbase will reduce launch cadence to defer to KSC.

The opportunity for tourism may only last a few years or it may extend to decades if Starbase is the primary launch facility for testing new versions and KSC is only responsible for high cadence standardized profiles or fully mission qualified versions. Dunno, but the opportunity is certainly there now.

Much obliged. Is that mechanical retraction controlled by a subroutine in the stage separation software or does it just happen when the booster engines gimbal to flick away from Starship? I would think the former a necessity since the latter risks unlatching from attitude correction.

That image does make clear the impacts of parking HLS at gateway long term:
Increase in burn to adjust HALO orbit.
High amount of leverage acting on the docking ring during such a burn though it might be minimized through orientation and use of HLS engine for the burn.
