Might go into the Captain Obvious quotes folder. If breaking stuff enhances learning they probably learned a lot. No disrespect intended. Can’t wait to see what they come up with. There are some aspects of OLM platform damage that are also probably from thrust rather than flying rubble and rebar. That aside the whole episode begs the question “ would it have made orbit with only 2 changes, electronic gymbaling and the steel flame diverter?
I think the disparity is due to the expectation that the rocket wouldn’t survive but the facility would. Also the rocket isn’t around to protest being ignored while the site can only sit there getting ogled.

There is a school of management that says the fastest way to a difficult goal is to fail quickly, learn what you can, then rinse and repeat. I've been involved with the fail quickly model once in my career. It was totally invigorating and I LOVED it. The nay sayer were predicting our failure, and had they been in charge we would have failed. Our team got so much done in such a short time it was amazing. In the end though, the nay sayers won and we had to go back to the "safe paralysis by analysis" methodology. That's why I said the blasted OLM made me happy. The plodding, better safe than sorry, nannies didn't win the conversation. I think Elon is pretty much a turd, but I'd like to work for one of his companies.

You get the safe paralysis by analysis with ULA, Boeing and BO.

I don’t disagree even though in hindsight it would almost certainly have saved time over the next several months to have gone ahead with the deluge and diverter first. It’s usually what you don’t know or didn’t anticipate that bites you but that said, on this scale you simply can’t completely ignore worst case scenarios in the name of speed. But truly bad didn’t happen, this was merely phooey bad mixed with f*** yeah success. There will be plenty of whining about debris messing up the area and the consequences of that might be more of a problem than cleaning it up or fixing the cause of the mess. Unfortunately, that has to be included in the prelaunch risk assessment because it comes under accountability afterwards.

Here's a video that has some great shots of the aftermath. Considering what it did, I'm not seeing much that isn't just bandaids. A TON of bandaids, but nothing majorly wrong.

I think we need to wait on the results of their close visual inspections. The slab itself is certainly just a big bandaid but as for the rest it’s too soon to tell.

WAI is pretty much as close to a click bait hack as you can get. RGV Aerial is a better channel.
