It’s not that big a deal since the question was moot in the first place.

 

It’s sad but the things they learned don’t go away. They may sit on a shelf for awhile though like the Tesla valve. We still have a ways to go in materials science to make feasible things we’ve learned already.

A billion here, a billion there… what’s the big deal?

 

“Long standing issues” = how NASA works using cost plus contracts. Not unique to the space industry either. There’s a field of rabbit holes to disappear into on this topic but you have to admit that things have been done that no company would ever do on their own.
