I enjoyed this episode, particularly the last question and raising the notion that gravity might not scale its effects in a linear way. Reminds me of just about every other physical “law” we’ve come up with. They tend to fall apart when pushed out of comfort zones.

The shifting of moons to more habitable locations rather than using them exclusively as raw materials or living where they currently orbit(the moons of Jupiter, as attractive their resources may be, reside in a hell of radiation and magnetic fields) strikes me as a novel approach to reducing the travel time to other colonies. Being able to tease them into place without actually going there seems a good idea. We’ll have plenty of time to figure out the orbital mechanics and argue over placement before we can actually do it.

Crew access arm for 40 and a booster, it always amazes me they leave boosters parked out front with no obvious purge on them, almost like a forgotten shopping cart...

Man, that’s one toasty looking booster.

Re: the crew access arm,,, amazing to see another pad getting ready down there. I’m thinking SpX will have at least a couple more arms to build in the next few years or so.

    Thanks for the pics

Could be they’ve grown comfortable with a static pressurization at the port?

I really hope that a successful OFT-2 (or at least success with stage-0) along with a successful crew launch at SLC-40 will turn the tap back on at 39-A and possibly an additional pad for the third tower. Also, where at KSC will Spacex duplicate what they do at Massey’s?

    This is so cool! Thanks!

What do you mean by having an obvious purge on them?

A lot of the pressurized vessels I have worked on and around are purged with a commodity to maintain cleanliness, prevent corrosion after being filled with propellant.
Maybe they use the helium that is already inside the tanks to purge, doubtful, its expensive....

Oh, I thought maybe you meant purging any hypergolic gasses. I didn't think X used hypergolics on their F9s.

TEA-TEB is pyrophoric(ignites in the presence of O2) does that qualify it as hypergolic if the other chemical has O2(or is just LOX)?
I thought maybe purging the propellant tanks with nitrogen might be part of the day long process of prepping for transport. I’d think the TEA-TEB might require a more dedicated process/secure location.

Is there an EEP! in place? (Emergency Evacuation Plan).
