I think I read all of Clarks novels prior to graduating high school. :anonymous:

I have to admit that I've never really been a fan of Clarke's writing style, but after seeing a few interviews with him and spending some time in the UK, I can better understand the social slants that he weaves into the story line. Like Gulliver's Travels, his stories are far more enjoyable if you don't see the politics in the shadows.

I personally preferred Asimov to Clarke. However, I’d read Heinlein over anyone else.

You guys [gals?] like to read Clancy-esque stuff? I wrote a sci-fi book nearly 10 years ago that I had to self publish. Based on the 10th anniversary of 9/11, once that date came and went and I'd only sold a whopping 469 copies, I decided to pull it. It is a short read as I pulled nearly 100 pages of additional character development and story lines from the compiled e-book as everything was priced "by the page". Edit, Publish, and Print. So, though they added additional context and perhaps made a more interesting read, the additional pages did not add anything to the base story line so I pulled them and then thought if sales really took off, I could always "second edition" it and add them back in. Anyway, if you would like a free e-book for Xmas, PM me and I'll try to figure out how to send you one? Absolutely no cost involved here. I've got another book in the works, so I'd like some additional feedback on this one to help me do the next one better.

    Thanks, Garth [A.K.A. JJ Gregory]

I like some of Heinlein's work, better than ACC (Rama and Childhood's End are the only 2 ACC books that I thought more than "meh" of) but my favorite author is Larry Niven.

I like his Known Space stories with Slavers, Tnuctip, and Kzin (the Kzin are probably the most blatantly ripped off alien species ever).

Niven's short story of humanity's first contact with the Kzin can be found HERE The Warriors

    Yeah! Niven's good too.

I bet you like Drake and Pournelle too. I used to devour Hammer's Slammers and Falkenberg's Legion books over and over.

If you can find it, there's an excellent 6 book military/sci-fi series by Jason Frost called The Warlord.

5 out of 6 of the books are terrific with the 6th being a bit weak.

Heinlein always added the soft porn angle, kudos for that, and a very screen play style that made it easy to set the book down for a few days, then pick back up without retracing. What I would consider good for summer time and vacations.
The Foundations novels were my favorite from Asimov, had a realistic adventurous tone.

    Thanks for the link.
Niven was my favorite for a long time, due to the characters and odd situations. His science was rock solid at the time as well. I remember eagerly anticipating the next novel, wondering what Beowulf was going to do next.

Oooh, hard sci-fi talk huh? I planned to read some of those books mentioned, thanks for the coincidental reminder CJREX. haha

For pretty recent novels, have you guys read The Expanse by James S.A. Corey series? The TV show is good, but the novels are superb.

Figures, they can't just have the long slow trek out to position zero like Apollo. They just get an erection right there on the spot. And blast OFF!

    Pretty cool!
