    I know this is irrational, but I get kind of a heavy heart about stories like this. All of the time, money, care, expertise, and teamwork to get that piece of machinery all the way out to the asteroid belt, then, one day, it is just over. We know it is there, but it is gone.

    I used to work in a calibration lab at a specialty metals company. We traced a lot of our standards back to NIST. The folks we supplied materials to held us to ISO standards and made us show them how we met those standards. It was rigorous. And cool. In a totally nerdy way.

    Welder is too far back for scale. The scaffolding and, to some degree the chain, helps a bit.
