some guys at a local lunch place yesterday were BSing around, one of them claimed to have a 1000dB sound system in his car

which is preposterously stupid....for shits and giggles I did some research and giggled a lot

I knew the dB system is on a logarithmic system, like the pH or Richter scale, but didnt realize how hilarious his statement was

a sound from a 1000dB sound system would vaporize the earth
    the solar system
    the galaxy
and would destroy the universe, possibly creating a black hole in the process...one that's bigger than the observable universe

1000dB contains more energy than we've seen in the observable universe as well...a lot more

so I want to learn where that guy got his subs from!

    less

since the energy contained in 1000db is more than we've seen in the entire universe :anonymous:

One could guess that the Chelyabinsk blast must have been the closest to the sound of a nuke that normal people have gotten.

Will have to read this later. Seems like a good article.

    So question for you guys.
The other day I was talking to my girlfriend about science and she asked me how I knew it was true. It stumped me for a little but I thought about it and came up with an appropriate answer but I thought I'd ask you guys as well.

How do you know science is true? What makes it fact and not opinion?

Complete failure of our educational system.
In the 60s and 70s, we looked up to scientists.
By the 4th grade, I had been taught the difference between a hypothesis, theory, and fact.

It is no wonder that today, the masses accept untested hypotheses as "fact"
