Wouldnt a 1/2" spacer be just like having a thicker top hat for the shock assembly...Just asking cause im not seeing any downsides to adding such a slim spacer.

@jberry813 They are asking for your thoughts on adding a spacer lift to their coilovers.

That's definitely not true. Exactly opposite actually.

I swapped to 14" 600lb coils from 13" 650lb coils and barely had to preload them to get the same lift. There was a pretty significant difference.

Because your linear spring rate defies physics....

    Here's the thread @deeezy
If you guys are rubbing at full stuff, and don't want to rub anymore, the obvious thing to do is start cutting for clearance if you want to keep your travel, or space your bumpstops to limit the travel. Cranking away on the coils only add ride height, and won't limit anything unless you cranked so much that you have coil slap.
And another thing I always wonder, how many guys put a shock spacer on their shocks to get lift, also add a bump stop spacer to avoid shock damage?

You're saying I'm wrong? I can provide pics? :notsure: Everybody I've seen swap to longer coils needed less preload to achieve the same lift. :cookiemonster:

Yes. I'm saying you are wrong.

The preload is the same. But the spring is longer so you have less threads exposed. Exposed threads is not the same as preload.

^^^ this is what I'm saying is wrong.
    13" 650lb coil:

    14" 600lb coil

Same amount of lift. Defying physics :cookiemonster:

Are you in a 3rd gen tacoma? If yes what are your measurements from middle of hub to fender. I'm at exactly 23"
How's your ride with that much crank on your coils? I'm at about half that amount and have exactly 2" of lift. Maybe it's safe to crank it down a bit more for more lift.
    What say you?

The lower spring rate was all I was after.

I have the Fox 2.0 coilovers and they come set for 2" lift. I had a 3" spacer lift before, so I didn't want to lose any lift when I put the coilovers on. I bought extended length studs, and a half inch spacer which helped, but I still had to add about a half inch of preload to get the lift I wanted. I have longer bump stops so I don't have to worry about the shocks bottoming out, even though I really doubt a half inch spacer would be enough to do that. Also, by having a little spacer instead of adding more preload, you don't lose any down travel.

So where did you put the spacer? I have mine on top of my stock coils and it rides terrible. I'm looking to get Fox but have been reading about the preload issues and having too much.
