Spacer + Fox coilover

There are two separate issues here, and a spacer isn't the proper fix for either one.

A spacer will change the extended and collapsed lengths. So now you'll bottom out on the coilover and overextend the ball joints.

If you're rubbing your tires are too big and you need to move the bump stop down on the frame. I believe there are aftermarket bump stops and spacers to accomplish this.

If you've added weight you probably need new springs. It's unfortunate, but the reality of fine tuned suspension. We swap springs on off-road trucks all the time because of different weights. Only makes sense that you might have to change them on a Tacoma.

They told me that they recommend only two additional full turns to achieve another 1/2" of lift. I previously had the 5100(set at 0)+OME 887 which gave me a near 3" lift on 285/70/17 Nitto Grapplers. They worked fine and did not rub on the mudflap/body mount.

Since I installed the Fox setup with their factory preload I lost some lift. Even when I cranked the coilovers two additional full turns on the collar my tires would still rub. So I cranked the coilovers to the same height as my previous setup at around 2.85-2.90" of lift. The preload is a shit ton. These coilovers come factory with 13" 600# coils. I'm running a 105# bumper and a 30# front skid. It drives fine, haven't heard or felt any coil bind yet but I think I will upgrade to 14" 650# coils in the near future.

Out of the box Fox preload. Gave me about 2" of lift.

Had to crank out an additional 12 threads on the driver and 10 on the passenger to get 3" of lift to match my previous 5100+887 lift. The blue marks where the factory preload was at.

So the tighter you make the coil over the more lift? I’m confused I thought adjusting the shock longer made more lift?

I have the Fox 2.0 coilovers and they come set for 2" lift. I had a 3" spacer lift before, so I didn't want to lose any lift when I put the coilovers on. I bought extended length studs, and a half inch spacer which helped, but I still had to add about a half inch of preload to get the lift I wanted. I have longer bump stops so I don't have to worry about the shocks bottoming out, even though I really doubt a half inch spacer would be enough to do that. Also, by having a little spacer instead of adding more preload, you don't lose any down travel.
