Wider or lower offset wheels will impact the stance more than tires will. 265/75/16 and 255/85/16 are the largest you can go on factory wheels with no rubbing what so ever. Keeping it simple, spacers and low offset wheels are essentially the same thing.

Ok, so I’m doing 17” oem TRD wheels with 35x12.50R17/E 121R tires. How many inches of lift will I need to prevent rubbing? (I’m copying the attached configuration but don’t have lift spec).

Depends on if you're willing to cut for clearance or not. If willing to cut, zero lift. If not willing to cut 6" DB lift or a combination of ifs/body lift.

No cutting. Want to mimic the picture and he didn’t cut. Haven’t heard back from him in a while. Ifs? Pardon my ignorance, I know electrical and it ends there.

    Just 3 tons of fun!!!

LMFAO... your mechanic is an idiot.

1.25 inch spacer are no worse for bearings than a set of aftermarket wheels that give you 1.25 more backspace.

You won't fit 35's without a lot cutting or by using a janky 6" lift which will ride like shit.

A typical Tacoma lift (aka not a 6" POS lift) lift does not help to clear larger tires at all, the tires still move through the same travel arc. Clearing tires is done through cutting, alignment, and expensive parts.

You'll need a tune and gears for 35's, did you factor that into your cost?

I did not, no. I think it best I just leave it as is. Too many opinions coming from too many directions. Thank you for the valuable info…

Really the best setup for these trucks is a cheap-ish Bilstein lift, and the lightest 33" tires you can get on whatever wheels fit your look. Don't lift it more than 1.5" in the front, and just do a simple 1" block out back on factory leafs. You won't have to trim much to fit, if you don't add much armor/bumpers you can get by with stock gears.

Still recommend OTT tune on even a stock truck.

Nitto has the Recon Grappler tires in 285/70/17 in a SL weight which is 49lbs. Match that to a light wheel and you'll be good.

OP, get yourself some 6 lug wheel spacers for your 3rd gen at your desired width, put them on, and see it for yourself. Any reputable bolt on spacer with 8 thread turns each, can drive around the neighborhood block.
A couple hundred is nothing to start.

OP, I started out with 1.5" spacers on my stock wheels to get my feet wet. I knew it wasn't permanent.
You can return or sell them later. Or in my case, I still carry one spacer to use with my spare tire wheel if I get a flat. They were well worth it.

    1.5” don’t rub? I was told 1.25” is max on this truck…

No rubbing at all with stock 16" D wheels and 265/70r16 Yokohama HT tires it came with. I did some light offroading with them as well and never had a problem in the couple of months I ran 1.5" spacers.
I never tried 2" but you can test them immediately in your driveway and return if too big.

    Here's 1.25" Spidertrax w/ 265/75/16.
Good luck finding a tire shop willing to put anything wider on stock wheels.

Been running the spacers since June w/out issues.
Make sure hub and spacer are clean before install and torque spacer to included specs and you'll be ok.

Going with a shorter spacer might require trimming the lugs. A bigger spacer may require new/longer lugs.

    Can anyone verify this?
“The largest tire for stock a 3rd Gen Toyota Tacoma suspension is 265/7516 or 265/7017. Many guys have verified that these tires work with no rubbing whatsoever on our stock suspension.“
-Toyota Technician (noticeably new on the job). I thought I could go slightly larger without any modifications... Anyway, if this is the case then the attached would be perfectly suitable for my vehicle without having to mod, tune etc. correct?

You'll have to get someone with those wheels at whatever offset they are, and with the same actual spec size tires, to say so absolutely.
I would start a new post not called spacers, or ask in a thread already covering that exact sizing question.

I started one. Same old 10 ways to do one thing. I’m putting the 17s on. How wide/tall can I go on 17s (…/70or75/17) without any modification? There’s only one answer. Someone must know. Igu

Aren't the Pro wheels +4 offset? If so, an under 32"D tire is probably fine but until it's at full flex at lock turn, which will happen offroad eventually only the guy with them would know for sure.
