    i have a 23 sr.
i would like to get a dumb key made to unlock the door for when i lock my smart key in the truck which i will eventually do.
locksmiths near me are only mobile so i went to lowes. the guy there tells me using a dumb key could mess up the electronics. i find that hard to believe but left without new key anyway.
so what say you all. did he know what he was talking about?
    thanks

nope - you can get dumb keys and it's not an issue. I've got a handful myself. Got them done at ACE and a local guy over the years

That is definitely incorrect. In fact, some of these trucks COME with a plain key for the very purpose you describe.

Had my locksmith cut me a few dumb keys when they were making/programming regular keys as spares. Doesn't hurt anything.

If you teach yourself to only lock the door from the fob you will never lock it inside.
Had to do this to my wife when she last screwed up. And by smart key I assume you don't mean push button start because it will not let you and nags you if you try.:D

It will work, the vehicle most likely just won't start with it. Discovered this on the wife's Rav4, we were going to have someone look at it and tested the spare key, crank, no start. The remote key has to be in proximity to the steering column.
