I am always late to the party.

I'll still give him some advice. The next time you get angry and wanna break something, just continuously slap yourself in the face hard until you realize that slapping yourself is not helping your situation. Its better than breaking a truck part and ending up at the same conclusion.

when I go on a trip or off roadin I put an extra spare in the bed ......
    2 spares better than 1...
easier than messing with spare under bed unless needed .....
might be hard to find and expensive to get new tire on a trip......

found local online $40 - tire is new - lucky find

and I carry air pump for a slow leak that can be limped home

Well, it’s not like he was going to be able to stick a 285 up in there afterwards anyway.

He should have had his wife come out and get the spare out.

Spare tire carriers can be cammed over so it lifts the chain turning the opposite way if you forget to stop spinning when the tire hits the tarmac.

I would guess the OP was trying to lower the tire, while actually raising it, figured it was jammed and then cut the whole thing up for nothing out of anger.

Not enough bandwidth on the internet to list.
Had he hit it with his purse a bit harder and a few more times, surely it would have started functioning.

Well if we are going by that logic, how about a green line for military support? Equal opportunity line display!

Actual footage of OP raising his spare tire, prior to it becoming jammed.

I was once in the garage moving the motorcycle around, stepped on a screwdriver and it zinged out from under my foot, and the bike landed on me and pinned me down for a couple of minutes. I finally got out from under it and kicked the shit out of the gas tank. BRILLIANT.
    Kind of feel his pain……

Agreed, a cable would be better.

As far as a "chain hanging down"; I put a magnet on the top side of the wheel to hold the chain up & away. Nothing hanging down now.

I have have quite a few Toyota trucks in my life and they all had the old school chain lowering gizmo set up. I am assuming the lowering mechanism on my 3rd Gen Taco is pretty much exactly the same as it was on all the others Yota trucks, but maybe I should do a quick dry run on this process just in case.

PS: in this day and age, I am kind of surprised there is not an App that lowers the spare for you. :)

I was in a similar situation many years ago and it wasn't fun. I can laugh at it now, I got a flat tire around 1am with my new '76 Chevy pick up. Less than 800 miles on it when I pull out the jack from under the hood it wouldn't work. So I had to drive several miles on gravel, tore up the tire and rim. Farmer's are really leary about answering the door at 2am, (before cell phones), anyway I went to the dealer the next day with a tire and jack in the box. They happily replaced the rim and jack but was told that the tire didn't have road hazzard warranty. They sold me a tire and mounted free for my inconvenience, it was my fault for driving on it.It was a long time but I'm thinking it cost about $30
