    Hey guys,

Completely new to the Tacoma world. Just bought a 2017 Tan Off Road, so far I am loving it.

Here is the question. I am currently upgrading my tires to some BFG A/T K02 265/70r17 and my stock tire rim size is 16. Should I get matching spare tire or is that pointless? I heard it is a waste of money but I have no clue, what you guys think?

Your factory spare should be the same size. But if you're at the point you need a spare, a full size, matching tire is usually best

    ^^^what he said.

I will add that if I were buying BFG A/T K02 265/70r17 and planning to go offroad. Once I am off in "BFE" with only My dog and a sapre to get back out.... I would prefer a matched type/size/pressure tire to remove myself from a possible bad situation. Of course 1 mile or less from "the" road is much different than 10 or more miles of trail, possibly rough since you now have lost a tire, from the road to repairs. So weigh your intended use and wallet before you take my no cost advice. ;)

It is pointless to upgrade to the same rim, just upgrade the spare tire to something closer in size and type to your stock tire, do you plan to do some serious off roading? Matching the rim and rim size is only aesthetics, period. Welcome to the off the lot BFG club, you are in a big company!

I'm a big believer in five tire rotations and having a matching spare. The spare will eventually rot and be unsafe anyway (even kept out of sunlight).
