Interested to see if anyone has installed fuel cell(or tank) where the spare tire normally mounts.

Only one thread showed up in the search, hasn't been updated, limited info.

Edit: single biggest hurdle is how to tap into the OEM fuel tank or filler neck without causing unintended consequences

    Things I'm not interested in:
    -"Just get Jerry cans"
    No
    -"get a larger LRA tank"
    No
    -"Get roto packs"
    No
-"but mah GVWR! it can't carry that!!!"
    No
    -"but safety, rear ended, fire!"
    No
    "You need a spare"
Yes, it's already mounted to the Alucab canopy camper rear door
It is not Friday buddy, don't test me

Its something ive been eyeing. It would be a great spot for an auxiliary fuel tank. Its on my to do list.

I know some have put their on board air there, but you sound more like the guys over here trying to put a gas heater for camping cold weather. I am sure between here, this link and the RV forums, you can come up with something.

Already have a propane fireplace, looking for additional driving range.

I'm going to check this out though, thank you

Just out of curiosity if it’s not based upon the price tag…. Why are you against the LRA replacement tank?

Price is a big reason, 3k+(labor+materials) for 13 extra gallons doesn't seem reasonable.

Weight distribution is another issue. Already heavy on that side of the truck, I'm trying to keep things reasonably even.

Agreed, I looked at them and then the price with install…. I decided I’d rather just stop for fuel or carry a can.
I’m not heading out of country tho.
Definitely interested to see where this goes and what you end up doing.
    Good luck.

I usually carry 2 5gallon extra cans. I got up to Sacramento from LA are with out having to stop at a gas station and getting raped for 5$ plus a gallon. I filled up here for $3.99.

custom would probably be a decent idea. find an aluminum fabricator in your area, take your pickup there and they can take dimensions and work something up in a week or two

The link doesn’t go anywhere now but this was an option…. Again the price outweighs the benefits. IMO.

Too bad you don't have a Land Cruiser. They make a 40 gallon tank for the spare location.
