That's what my guy told me but you may be right. That's ok, if it isn't included just gives me an excuse to put the newer design on my old rusted cable.

Since you see this often, do you know if the new spare tire carriers will fit on the pre-2013 models?

I'm trying to find any type of online pics or documentation on the new spare tire carrier.

Had my spare down today so took a pic. The bolts seem reachable from above. I hope this helps! I fluid filmed the crap out of it. Oh it's a 2015 btw.

    Second that, great pic.

Looks similar to the way the cable hoist is mounted. You can reach the bolts but they are tight and not sure you would be able to get a lot of leverage on them without removing the bed.

Unfortunately the Toyota Dealership I took mine to had the "your lucky we did it for free, never mind have concerns about spare tire hoists and the like.

    I found this:

    05/2008 - 11/2011: 51900-04040
    01/2011 - 08/2011: 51900-04041
    09/2011 - : 51900-35410

I suspect the last one is the chain version. Some sites have it for about $100.

With respect to the installation, it looks like the tray will have to be removed or lifted to gain access to the bolts but will investigate the next time I am under my truck

Replacing everything worn, broken, and rusted.
This message is for anyone with a rusted cable searching for a solution in the future.

Turns out you can replace the cable alone. I have the same system on my 4runner.

If your winch is working its not too bad of a job. If its not working, spray the hell out of it with white lithium grease and try again the next day. It should move some. If not, get a cutoff tool and some safety glasses.

Cable is 3/16. Get 3 feet (old one is 2 feet, but you need to double up the end for clamps). Get some wire cable end ferrules and cable wire clamps. Get a cable swager. Watch youtube for instruction on placing end clamps. Also Get a large shackle and a thimble to hold under the tire. Place the clamps above the tire where the wire comes back up. These are all common cable wire materials. Lowes has all of this stuff.

Theres a notch in the winch wheel. Youll see it when you bring the old one down. Thats where you ferrule goes. Dont think it will hold? Watch this. Even 1/8 line can hold over 800lbs.

    IMG_20180622_064522.jpg

Heres a photo of the original end clamp. It sits sideways in the notch.

    IMG_20180621_183019.jpg

System rated to hold 1000lbs. Tire weighs 70.

Total cost $40, and no ripping the old one down. If you already have a swager, or rent one, $10. And you learned something new.

I saw some winch replacements on eBay. My 2015 TRD OR has the chain but the winch is seized up to where the hook rod is bending. I've been spraying that area where I can reach but no luck after 3 days or cranking.
I think I'm either going to have to cut the piece that goes through the tire hole or try to remove the bed or crossmember piece that holds the lowering winch in place.
My other option is to have hook rod assembly machined with thicker (non bending) rods in order to force it down, any other ideas?

Lord where do you live, in a salt mine?
I have never seen a hoist seize. If you get it make sure to lube it on a regular schedule.

I looks like someone cranked the spare tire winch really tight and pulled the spare up against the metal spare tire "frame". From the pictures, it looks like the side wall is grooved in 8 spots. If the sidewall is really grooved that badly (and not an optical illusion in the pic), I wouldn't use that tire...sidewalls aren't thick and a blowout of the sidewall while driving would be dangerous.

Perhaps the tire is just scuffed, but the picture looks like the tire is damaged.

The date code on that tire is 1006, October 2006. My spare looked like that minus the rust. When I put in a new TPMS sensor the sidewalls started cracking.

My 2006 had its frame replaced in 2018 and the chain spare tire holder was part of the replacement. I'll check and see if I can find the list of replacement parts and I'll add it to this post if I can find it.

The tire and wheel definitely need replacing.

I just traded my steelies for alloys so I’ll have to find an appropriate replacement.
