googled it and didn’t see anything come up but I was under my 2017 Sport today torquing the u bolts (they were indeed loose) and noticed that my spare is a Firestone but my tires are Toyo A30s.

    Normal?

I have seen this at quite a few dealerships
I wouldn't say it normal more than just a common practice.

What's the common practice? The dealership swaps out your spare tire hoping you don't notice?

Or the factory just has extra Firestones left over? I didn't realize the 2016 came with Firestone.

It was probably just left over Firestone stock from the 2016 models. They probably assume itll dry rot before seeing any real use anyway. I doubt people are doing 5 tire rotations with the spare rim

Purchased my 2017 in January 2017 and had the same thing. Never put much thought into it as it is my spare.

Do all of the sports come from the Factory with Toyo?

I guess that would explain why the spares could possibly be different

Mine was a Q1 production 2017. I bet they threw an extra Firestone in there. Not that big of a deal, but what I’ve done in the past is save a few bucks by buying 3 new tires and putting the spare as the 4th. One of my old tires becomes the new spare. I doubt I’m sticking with the A30s next round anyway....just thought it was odd.

I imagine the tires and wheels are probably pre-mounted before being sent to the assembly. They probably just had extra spares with the firestones when Toyo won the bid for the 2017 OEM tires. We have a few customers we send off premounted tires on new wheels to. When they are done building the equipment, they just bolt the wheels and tires on them and sell them.

That sucks. My 17 TRD OR came with 5 matched Goodyear Wrangler AT w/ kevlar tires.

The Toyo and the Firestones are okay tires but are not very exciting. I'm sure you will switch to something better when wear the Toyo's out. You can find better tires for cheaper. I seem to have a hard time tracking down those A30s for some reason, makes me think it may be a dealer only tire. You know the mark up at the dealer will be stupid.

Its a little bit different on an OR with AT tires then a Sport with street tires. Miss-matched AT tires is less acceptable then miss-matched straight tread HT tires.

It's Perfectly normal pretty much across the TOYOTA line from what I've seen.

The only exception would be if the wheel/tire option came directly from the factory. When a given trim comes with aluminum wheels/tires, the spare is a match.
But if it’s a port or dealer install option, it will have the (different) tire/size that normally would come with that trim.

But don’t sweat it guys, my port package installed option came with 17” wheel/tires and my spare is 16”, and if you remember those tiny doughnut spare tires, it’s the same principle. Just change it ASP because not only does it look terrible, but handling is bitch among other things.

    Hope that helps
    Cheers!

It's a 17 inch rim, same as the rest of your wheels. You can see it in your pic
