i can unbolt it at the bed mount and swing it into another mount on a bed bar and bolt it in there to retain bed space as well

I hate the looks of the under-bed spare, but I guess it's an idea. Wouldn't be too bad...

If I had a bed bar, or knew of someone who makes them, I'd do that. But no luck. And I'm getting a toolbox soon, and not sure where I would put the bed bar with that.

I'm gonna look into the under-bed option. Maybe I can find a 33" spare that isn't as wide, so It doesn't hang down as far. That would work for an emergency, right? Like a trail skinny 33" for a spare? Ideas?

Yep, find a 33.10.50 KM2 for a spare it will work fine. cut the ends off the brackets for the under bed spare where they turn down. You'll have plenty of room for a 33 and it should tuck up there pretty good with a skinny spare.

Gotta say I would do the upright mount if I was still doing a lot of wheeling, just set it up in the right rear corner and still lots of room for a toolbox and other supplies. I had that type of setup on my 71 chev for many years and it was the stock location for the spare on my old fullsize Jimmy.

I know, resurrecting an old post, but after reading I think with a little modification to the spare tire carrier, I can run a full size spare underneath the bed in the original carrier???

2003 Tacoma DC, running Toyo Open country 255/85/16's on stock wheels. (Toytech lift with new rear leaf springs.

What say you oh experienced folks.

Yeah most people who run larger tires in the stock spare location will just cut the ends off the cradle/arms or whatever you want to call it. Although I know some are adjustable, however I'm not sure which trucks do have them or how far they adjust.

Thing is tho a 255/85 tire is pretty narrow so its not bad under the bed as its actually narrow then a stock tire. a 12.5'' wide tire would suck having under then as you risk dragging it more.
