I had to use the spare tire on my 1 month old 2024 Taco TRD OFF-ROAD. I was very surprised that my “full sized spare tire” is well not really. Yes it’s the same overall diameter but is narrow, has minimal tread depth, and says “temporary use only” in large letters.

So, is it correct to assume that an actual 265/70-17 all train tire and full size wheel will fit underneath? If so, I’m looking for a someone’s take-off TRD off-road wheel or wheels (I’ll take the set). I’m in NC.

Take off one of your wheels, place axle on jackstand. Remove spare, see if the full size wheel will fit properly in the spares place. See how much clearance you lose and how close to the exhaust system the tire is.

Sure, the "full-size" spare isn't actually full size, but at least you got the 1700# payload. Right Sheldon?

Plugged the tire this morning and checked fitment of the full size tire/aluminum wheel in the spare location and is OK. So i’m now on the hunt for a wheel and will buy an all-terrain tire that matches my others. Just a little disappointed that on a TRD Off-Road that the spare is a “temp use” NON off-road tire. God forbid, you have a flat on the trail as the spare will not get you back to civilization.

Just look for a steely full size 2-3 gen spare. Get the proper lug nuts. Prosper.

Good idea on the steely but wasn’t the wheels for gen2/3 16” not 17”? I’m pretty sure my gen2 toco was 16”. I really want 17” so I can exact match the spare to my other tires.

Anyone know the actual 2024 TRD Off-Road wheel specifications 17”x(?)wide w/offset of (?).

The gen2/3 Sport had 17" wheels, so maybe find one of those spare wheels. The Off Roads had 16", and I'm not sure about the SR5...

The 5th gen 4Runners all run 17" wheels, and have a 17" steel spare wheel, except for the Limited, which came with a matching 20" wheel for the spare.

I will have a 17" steel spare wheel (and 265/70-16 tire) available in about a month or so. I bought a matching 4Runner Off Road wheel & same size tire from a gentleman in Phoenix, just waiting for the delivery so I can swap them out.

Here's a 265/70-17 on my 4th gen SR5. There's enough room, but it is a bit low. (Mine had the donut "non-full size" too. I complained aggressively to the dealer & he switched it out to the same wheel & tire as the 4 on the ground.)

Check-out this source, for some reason they seem to have access to excess inventory of Toyota OEM tire/wheel combos. And some of their ebay price listings are hard to beat. (I have no connection, but I have been a customer.)

I ordered the factory TRD OF wheel & tire from Texas Truck Tire and it will deliver on Friday! $525 shipped from TX to NC and they ordered in a new tire to match what came on my truck since the wheel had a different brand on it. I think a good price for a new take-off wheel and a brand new tire mounted, balanced and delivered to my door.
