Those are from quality escapes in material or workmanship. And it's easy to proof load the crimp to, say, 500 lbs during cable manufacture. Arguably, had Toyota used chains during those years, they'd probably suffer from corrosion and bad welds too.

I disagree and will leave it at that. Why do you think they are going back to chains?

It isn't price cable and crimp collars are cheaper. It is because of the failure rate of cables over time.

    Chains > Cables.

Ah...no way....chains are cheaper.....I have yet to see a ski lift or tram suspended by chains.....every link is a potential weak spot.....Chinese chains are nototiously made of soft metal and fail easily.....the Chinese are smitten by LEAD. They put it in EVERYTHING. Screws.....bolts....chains....it makes it easier for THEM to cut, shape, etc. Terrible for YOU.

So you are saying the chains used in the tire winch is from china?

    Care to prove it?

    Enjoy your delusion.

I found this interesting (from a United States Securities and Exchange Commission report form filed by Toyota):

Toyota had more than 50 overseas operations in 26 countries and regions as of March 31, 2009, procurement of parts and components are being carried out not only locally in the country of the production site but also from third-countries.

No single supplier accounted for more than 5% of Toyota’s consolidated purchases of raw materials, parts and equipment during fiscal 2009, except for Denso Corporation, an affiliate of Toyota, which supplied approximately 10% of Toyota’s purchases during fiscal 2009.
In other words, who knows where the specific part in your Toyota was made?

I never said that. But why don't you prove it isn't? Toyota will seek the best component at the lowest price it can.
