No issues with the exhaust burning my spare tire.

Oddly enough, your cut looks exactly like my cut, unlevel to the ground.

I'm sure my slanted cut is directly related to me going at it from the wheel well, and mostly not caring what onlookers would say about it.

I have this size. Move the bracket. Pretty straightforward once you lower the spare.
I do the four way swap so I could keep a cheaper steely for the spare.

I can't find it now but there was a great article on this exact subject on a blog somewhere.

In summary, you can A) bend those "brackets" B) air down some (obviously there are limits to that but it might be JUST enough) C) run a slightly smaller spare or D) mount the tire in your bed :)

    *EDIT*

I have Toyo Open Country ATIII 285/70/17s and that spare BARELY fits. Takes some fighting to get it in the right spot.

Mine squeezed up there with no modifications necessary. Have someone hoist while you hold it in place. However, I do plan on moving the hoist and beating those stock holders with a hammer in the summer when the ground doesn't give me frostbite ;)
But 285/70R17 fits. Barely. Any taller and you'd need to modify.

Hammer the guards and pull the tire backward when raising it
