I'm a little under 19k miles on my 2017, but I bought a set of oem plugs last week since I'm doing all the other maintenance front to back. Hoping to get them installed in the next few days. I'll post a few pictures on how they look for fun.

I remember my first plug change. Those Haynes manuals with the plug descriptions are great for understanding what they should look like vs not.

So your changing plugs at 19K miles?I have to ask why would you do something like that?

Undoubtedly your build up is from running unnecessary octane. You are not getting a good burn. Exactly why there is nothing premium about premium gas. Your other gimmicks probably didn't help either.

Lol other gimmicks? Definitely additives and not rust. I can afford the extra $10 per fill up for 93 octane and have always ran 91+ octane. My first KDMAXX tune called for it and it’s what I want and choose to use. I feel the truck runs smoother and accelerates better.
As far as the Lucas octane boost definitely helps with acceleration.
My truck has never ran badly and 2 days of driving my truck since plug change it’s still running great and I’ve done nothing different. I’m happy with it. Different strokes for different folks man

Because I can and I want to. :) The truck is 6+ years old and I'm doing all the preventative maintenance. front/rear diffs, transfer case, coolant/radiator hoses, power steering fluid, serpentine belt, transmission fluid, ect. Only thing left to do is the transmission fluid and servicing the rear drums (clean, lube backing plates, and paint drums). Then the fox 2.5's and new tires are going on. :mudding:

    Ask and ye shall receive...

The passenger side plugs were hardly snug when I took them out. Almost as if they forgot on the assembly line. I was very surprised to see so much oil on the threads, but the plug tips themselves weren't terrible. I'm glad I changed them all out though. I plan I checking/replacing them in another 20k miles to see if conditions improve. The truck is running soooo much smoother now.

    Nice! Thanks for sharing!
Driver side was a pain in the ass for me to get to. They were way more snug on the passenger side than the 13 ft lb of torque they called tor installing replacements.. considering mine were 7 times more mileage than yours they don’t look bad at all and I’m not at all worried anymore!
I’ve notice the truck sure does accelerate a lot smoother now too and I’ve been getting about 1.5 mpg better gas mileage on average

You can afford it? Haaaa, you are exactly the person they market it to. Lots of people can afford to buy that nonsene, but those that have put some thought into it realize it is a waste of money. There is nothing premium about premium fuel except the price. The other snake oil you have been throwing in is no different. You don't have to believe me, just look at your plugs. They speak for themselves. So what have you gotten for all that money you have wasted? Nothing but build up. I would imagine you have a fair amount of carbon built up in your combustion chamber. You probably need the high octane now because your compression has increased from the build up.

You do realize that there is zero extra power in a gallon of premium gas vs regular, right? None. So why are you wasting your money?

Yes I’m not saying nobody else can afford it at all. Wasn’t meaning to come off like that. I’m just saying I don’t mind paying an extra $10 per fill up for my truck to run smoother. Yes I’ve always noticed my truck runs better on 93 octane gas compared to 87 octane. That’s why I run it. Sea foam is proven I’ve used it on all my vehicles in the past and I’ve gotten over 300k in them all without any engine issues and I use it on average every 5k miles.
Also I’d be willing to bet all gasoline with ethanol has a lot of buildup. None of us know tor sure what we’re paying for at the gas pump in all honesty. I tend to use shell gasoline bc it seems to be better than maverick and marathon and the stores are usually cleaner around here.
Btw honestly If we had more gas stations with non ethanol 91 I’d run that but we only have a couple stations that carry it where I’m from. Yes I realize I’m not getting anymore horsepower from the 93 octane or Lucas octane booster just feel the truck runs smoother overall in my opinion based off driving the truck
My truck is running great I just admittedly slacked on my plug interval and wanted to share with everybody and give some info of what I’ve been running through the engine. Fingers crossed but so far so good with my first Toyota and if it continues I’ll be a lifer bc I love this truck

I'm still confused. You see the results that what you are doing clearly isn't helping and you rationalize it in your head that it feels better. That is exactly what the marketing wants you to think. It's "premium" or "super". You have to feel it right? If you want to spend more to get a fuel that is undoubtedly better then you should look at ethanol free. I know it doesn't have the marketing power of calling it "turbo" or "lightning", but it doesn't have 10% ethanol which means that it does actually have more power because gasoline has more BTUs per gallon than ethanol.

The reason you are confused is that you are obsessing over what this guy puts in his tank. His truck, his money brother!

Ah, another quality post by my favorite shipmate. Glad you were able to use that boatswain's mate education to draw such an astute conclusion. Now I know why I was confused. Thank you greatly. If only you I could have come to you with my catch edge sheet issue.

Looks fine to me mate. I still recommend laying off the seafoam though, maybe once or twice a year at most

You get 750-1000 miles per tank??? I’ll bet it’s every 20-25 tanks and time just slips by.

yeah my math made no sense with that post. probably every 20-25 fill ups would be more accurate. Just guessing. I do it when I think about it. I’d guess every oil change 7,500 to 10,000 miles on average
