    Hi all,
    Just got done doing a spark plug change on my 2010 TRD Off Road DC.... WOW! Truck has a little over 49000 miles, and I was hesitant in doing it, but with the awesome write ups, it was easy! Took me a little over 1.5 hours to do both sides, my gaps where anywhere between .058-.060... To anyone who is thinking about doing it, do it! So easy to do!

    PS- Used NGK Iridium IX's... A little pricy, but with a newborn at home, cant work on the truck as much as I used to... No issues to report so far!

    hope they work well for you, glad to see that they are ngk!

    just incase though its generally thought that the factory plugs are best, but I recon that only comes from those of us to scared to try something else

    5100's and 883 OME Coils TRD Exhaust Deaver 1.5" AAL Rear Differential Breather Extension, 4WD Light, Tailgate Pipe clamp, Fog lights on while High Beams on, Carrier Bearing flip
    The plugs are a breeze on this truck. Next time you'll have it down to under a half hour.

    Ive tried more plugs than you could imagine. The OEM plugs give best performance.

    I dont doubt that they do give the best performance, however, it is the service intervals that kill me... You would have thought that I had to beg/barter/steal to get even 2 hours to work on my truck.... It is just for now, I figure that it is better to have new plugs with proper gaps than stick with the old stock ones... I am not one that puts too much into the whole "performance through sparkplugs" belief, the main reason is due to the longer service intervals.

    Pretty sure the dealer threw irids on when they put on the force fed mod, but im still pulling them in 30k.

    i swapped to iridiums at 30k and have had great results. the pinging i used to have is gone and 40k miles later i still have 60k left until i swap the plugs out again.

    IMO, the oem plugs are cheap and don't last long at all.

    Copper plugs are better conductors, and give a hotter spark. If you are supercharged, then you need a cooler plug to prevent detonation.

    Cooler plugs, unless required, can lead to excess NOx, thus leading to carbon buildup on the pistons.

    No doubt that copper is the best conductor, but they don't last long at all.

    Are you saying that iridium or platinum provides insufficient spark for the 4.0?

    all of the dual vvti's come with iridiums from the factory

    The ones that come with them have an ignition system designed for them. The ignition on the Tacoma's 4.0 is designed for the copper/Nickle plugs. Best performance and milage is had with them.

    the OEM copper plugs are like $2 each. Just put OEM in and change them every 30k. You will get better performance and will satisfy Toyota's recommendation.

    back to bone stock.
    my spark plug change "nervousness" levels are directly proportional to the length of time the plugs have been in place.

    when a friend comes to me to help him/her change out 100k mile spark plugs i get damn nervous. i've seen them strip out too many times. (mostly ford F150's)..i hate it.

    on that alone, i always reinstall the vanilla copper NGK or Denso..i dont want them to get to comfy in that head. hahaa.

    The Fords are notorious for stripping or breaking because of the shitty design hence why even the dealer sells the removal tools for when that happens. Tacomas are a breeze, my first time was 45 mins taking my sweet time.

    The ideal with the 30K is for emissions warranty. If you don't and trash a converter Toyota will cry foul. MHO they should last at least 60K but if you want to keep the emission warranty intact you got to change them.

    If they made a copper plug that lasted 100K i still wouldnt buy it. I am paranoid about seized plugs in the head and like getting them swapped out more regularly. I use anti seize on everything.
