Spark plug getting harder and harder to turn

    Changing plugs on my 06, decided to start where I’m having a misfire (#6) I go to loosen the old plug, and it started getting harder to turn...

    Ruh roe! Try going back in with it. Is it still tight? Spray some penetrating oil into it and slowly work the plug loose and tight back and forth. If it feels like its going to brake STOP!

    May have been cross threaded, or no anti seize on installation. How long have they been in there?

    Do you a thread chaser and a vacuum? If you are worried about it being mangled, soak it in penetrating lube and try to back it out slowly. Forward-back-forward until it comes out. Chase the threads carefully and do not force anything. Clean up any shaving before you put a new plug in.

    I didn't know about thread chasers until I had an issue with an O2 sensor. Great idea to clean up the threads on spark plugs before reinstall even if they come out smooth.

    You are between a rock and a hard place it sorta has to come out and it's going to bring a few treads with it. It can be repaired but not with a plug in it. You may as well pull the rest out too and put some anti seize on them this time. Another good reason to change 4L plugs every 30K.

    Bought the truck two weeks ago. Started getting rough idle and flashing CEL, Got the codes and it’s cyl 6 misfire. That’s why I’m doing it now. Idk when the last time they were changed.

    You might want to check your oil too for any coolant contamination, coolant level too.

    Early model year '06 4.0s have an older head gasket design that has a higher susceptibility to failure than the average vehicle.

    Good luck, work that plug slowly, use penetrating oil.

    BTW, I changed my '15 plugs at 59K miles, even then they felt a bit 'tight' coming out..

    Not sounding good. I would suspect a head gasket. Good news is that the spark plug can be fixed with the head off a lot easier.

    I have had some really tight sparkplugs in Toyota motors before...
    Always that last one....

    soak it with penetrating oil, let it sink in, try to screw it back in, let it sit, then slowly try again to unscrew

    UPDATE:

    So I used PB blaster and its turning now, however... I’ve been turning it for what seems like forever and I don’t think I’m getting anywhere. (Yes the socket is on the plug) is it possible that my socket is stuck in the tube? If so, is there any way to extract it??
