I just bought a 2007 Taco with 84K on it. It's running fine but getting 16 mpg. My neighbor has 2015 Taco and he tells me that the tacos with the 6cyl 4.0L engine require spark plug changes every 30,000 miles. Recently changed the oil and went with synthetic oil, changed the engine air filter. Is he correct about the every 30K spark plug replacement?

Yes he is correct about the spark plugs being changed.

Thanks! Just thought it odd that they have to be changed that often. Does it improve gas mileage? Do you know how difficult is to change them out?

It should help your gas mileage, depending on when they were changed last... It's not too difficult to replace them. The most important part is torquing everything to the correct specs. It took me a few hours to replace mine, there's a good DIY write up on it

30,000 is correct. However it pretty much only applies to emissions.
Once you are out of warranty I see no reason to change before 50,00
Mine looked great at 50,000. But I went ahead and replaced them anyway.

I went with denso plugs, but will likely run NGK time around.
Not that Denson is bad, they are great. I have just liked NGK since I started using them years ago in my motorcycles.

mine came out at 30,000 and replaced and they all looked fine, just a bit bigger gap than new

but what is important is regular changing prevents them from seizing in there and borking the threads

don't know for sure if it changed anything driving-wise other than to say it was perfect before
and perfect afterward and was fun to do

Yeah, V6's have every 30,000, but 4 cylinders are every 120,000....no idea why the huge difference between the two. (Although I'm not a mechanic)

4 cyl engines use iridium plugs and the 6 cyl use copper.

    Getting there...
When I changed mine, I noticed the NGKs developed a larger gap than the Densos did.

I noticed this as well. My Denso's were gapped around .42 and my NGK's were around .45-.46

Plus the NGK's looked like they were more worn out the then Denso's.

When you go to the dealership the Denso's will be what you get for a replacement.
