    Hi All,

I just bought a 2000 Tacoma from my buddy and have a question. I took it in to my mechanic today and he said the spark plugs look good but that the wires need replacing. My buddy took it to his buddy for maintenance and just had the spark plugs replaced.
I'm wondering why this mechanic didn't also replace the wires but that's a different question!

Here's my question for you: Do I have to replace or even remove the spark plugs when replacing the wires? I'm kind of hoping I can do this myself. Even though my truck is a beater, I love her already!!

No, you don't need to remove your plugs to change wires. I would recommend removing one at a time-so you get the correct order when replacing.

Also, original Tacoma plug wire sets are year stamped (at least my '02 was), so if yours are originals they should say 1999 or 2000 on the plug wires.

My '02 still has original wire set in it, about 96,000 miles on it.

Plugs and wires are an easy job. I think I'd go ahead and do the plugs at the time you do the wires...then log that in your manual. That way you know both were done. Tutorial on this site is a good one!

Thanks very much! I attempted today but definitely need a tutorial because there is something in the way and I don't want to mess it up by moving it wrong. I think I need that boot tool also. Appreciate the responses!
