Cleaning wells. I shop vac’ed once. & will again before I clean. I was thinking whatever I can get, i’ll pull out. In other words, wipe towards me. Use a rag or toothbrush with brake cleaner & pull towards me. (I won’t back & forth scrub.) Cuz now I am getting that it’s ok if it ends up in the block? because I can easily vacuum that out.

That's what I would do if I were in your shoes. A good shop vac is you friend.

I still have a bunch of copper plug washers from decades ago.....we used to change them all the time when cleaning and re gapping plugs. “They do get compromised” but unfortunately I can’t even get the washers off the new style plugs ☹️

The foam is essentially weather stripping to "limit" the amount of "weather" that gets under the intake. The area is by no means anything like "sealed" so I wouldn't give it another thought.

A tad of rust under there is nothing to worry about. Worry should start if there is dried up antifreeze residue. With that said, when ever I get an intake off I reseal the coolant tube, takes 10 mins.
Talking about the end fastened to the block with two bolts. No gasket or o-ring, just coolant rated RTV silicone.

So as I am doing this, I i’m taking it this is more than “two bolts”? A nut plus knock sensor connections? Plus that foam seal is going to probably rip more.

I figured it out. Each plastic thing snapped? sorta. It was as though they were ready to go. So hopefully electrical tape around the connections & a zippy or two to attach the harness to the pipe will suffice. Oh, & the foam thing actually stayed in tact.

You might want to replace the knock sensor wire harness since your there,
It cost 20.00 or so and are under ALOT of stress from the heat there
