Changed my plugs at 30k like we're supposed to. I hoped that changing to the OEM Toyota plugs would help with some throttle response and acceleration. But, not really. A few of my friends have 2nd Gens with 4.0s and are running iridium spark plugs. When riding with them throttle response is noticeably different and acceleration also. All 3 of us run AFE drop in air-filters and Mobil1 full-synthetic.

Sound familiar? Anyone else like iridiums? If so, what kind (part #)?

It could just be the fact you are in a different perspective, i.e. observing instead of driving, passenger seat instead of driver seat.

It's like how you think your truck drives better after a car wash.

Maybe your injectors are dirty? Injector cleaning can make a huge difference to throttle response.

I changed mine at 35,000 and they needed it; gaps in the original spark plugs had grown well beyond spec.

There will be no "noticeable" change in driveability or performance between new properly gapped copper core plugs and any of the 'gimmick' plugs.

I'm curious why Toyota chose to use iridium on 2.7L trucks and not 4.0L's.

Very curious also. I went down to the Stealership today and asked one of the mechanics that I know. He said running iridiums is always better over the coppers.

Try unhooking the battery for 30 seconds or more to clear out the "learned memory" in the ecu. Most toyota's now adays have a learned memory, if you clear it and go drive it hard it might stay more responsive like you want.

I get this type of complaint all the time when a husband drives his wifes car, since he never drives it, when he wants to get on it, it lacks the response he is looking for. Due to the fact that its learned memory is based on the wifes driving style.

    Just an idea, might help.

Unfortunately i cannot speak for the techs on the west coast, we are trained differently over here on the east coast. If we were to call Tech Assitance in cali they would tell us we know more than they do, it has happened to our shop foreman. Although i am sure there are plenty of highly skilled techs out there.

You know i let a lot go on this board with stealerships and all the rants etc.
But one thing i will not do is be put into a demeaning category like you just did.
That is a slap,in the face of everything i try to do for every customer that comes in for the past 40 years.

I don't care in the next post you said 99%

Your getting real close to crossing the line with me personally. And i TAKE it personally.

My suggestion is to town down your rants.

We all know you hate dealerships and we charge to much, and your better than them. FINE.
Your getting a little to close to my heart and I'm not going to sit by and let you talk shit like that and not call you on it.

    Smarten UP...........

If you can't realize that the hate here toward the dealerships is based on a personal feeling of getting ripped off, then you're not shopping there. I never get work done by those guys because I can't afford to spare my extra beer money, but I always thought they knew what they were doing though. People always criticize expensive stuff. Get over it. :rockband:

    HEHEHEHEHE
I've been fighting this "Hate" for 40 years. I know all about dealer rip offs.
I've seen it and still see it. I just try to keep my little world as honest as I can.
Save your beer money. It's ok. i don't blame you
But when someone refere's to me to a "Bum on the street".
    NAAAAAA , not cool...
    Get over it.
    NAAAAA
Thats why i work so hard on this "HATE MENTALITY"
    Will I ever win ???
    NAAAA.
    but i keep fighting.
    Have a good evening.

Not trying to steal this thread but one quick question. 2.7L calls for Iridium plugs and replacement at 120000mi. 4.0L calls for copper tip plugs and 30000mi replacement. If Iridium plugs were installed in the 4.0L would they last longer then 30000? If not does anyone know why? Maybe one of the Toyota mechanics will help answer this question.
    Thanks
    Tom
