Looking to get new speakers for my dcab, rears are blown. I tried searching but not much luck for what I'm trying to find out.

In the past I ran Boston Acoustics, MB Quartz, & Infinity Kappas. What's good these days? I hear people talk about Focals or Eclipse? I'm not familiar with them.

And size is 5x7 but I remember something about being able to run 5-1/4 or 6x8 or 6x9 with adapters?

Not looking to run an amp, just powered off my old Alpine HU. Would like components in the front & thinking just a good midrage speaker in the rear doors instead of coaxial? I don't want to loose any mid to low end range, gain some if possible. No plans for a sub either. What say you guys?

    Thanks.

    not familiar with those either

Are your (blown) speakers still stock?

Have you looked at Crutchfield.com? I've gotten a lot from them in the past (nothing recently, though).

Unless you're an audiophile, pretty much any of the brands will be an improvement.

Thanks, yeah I always look at Crutchfield for reference, only bought from them once or twice long ago. Good to see they're still around. Haven't searched them much for brands yet, but they list a few sizes saying that fit other than 5x7.

Yes my speakers on this truck are stock. It was my previous cars that I ran upgraded speakers. I'm not a crazy audiophile but I do want to get something that might be above average & not crazy expensive. Under $200 a pair is what I'm comfortable with.

i put Rockford Fosgate punch series speakers in my pickup. i made a couple adapter plates and stepped up from stock size to 6.5" speakers. they sound great and are (relatively) cheap for the quality your are getting.

Sadly MB Quart is just China Junk now same with Phoenix Gold. But boston is still great and Infinity is too. I really like Polk for price/performance though

Thanks for the info. I really don't feel like making any adapters or cutting anything. If there are bolt on adapters I'm fine with that & the only modding I'm willing to do (brackets) is to try & fit tweeters under the stock tweeter grills. Guess I'm old now & don't care as much as I did when I was younger. :)

Damn that sucks to hear about MB. Glad I asked. Phoenix Gold is a name I remember. Never ran Polk myself. Thanks!

Am I thinking right about not wanting coaxials in the rear? Will non coaxials give me a bit cleaner bass in the rear or will it not matter much? I used to always run coaxials in the rear on my past cars but I had subs.

Coaxials will be fine in the rear, if anything I'd want components in the front for better imaging but the rear is just a fill so coax is great

Yeah, I've been running the stock speakers in my dblcab since day 1. I had an old (like 90's era) 10" sub woofer that I was able to fit behind the rear driver side seat in a custom box I made. The skinny magnet gave me the extra clearance I needed. I've run that for many years. Recently the sub stopped working and I suspect the amp gave out (after a decade). I've been toying with the idea of getting a self powered sub that fits under the driver seat, and re-gain some storage space behind the seat. Also considering some better speakers for the doors, at least the front doors. Just want better low end response. Not like I ever cranked the sub with my kids in the truck, lol...

Will be keeping any eye to see what you end up with.

Without an amp any name brand speaker will perform better than stock.

fair. i only made the brackets because i was to cheap to pay for the pre-made ones. iv'e seen a lot of plates to put several different size speakers in our trucks.

    Thanks for the suggestions everyone.

How about size, just stick with 5x7?

Ok thanks. Planning to go with components in the front but wasn't sure about coaxials or non for the rear though. Was thinking I'd get a bit more bass with non coaxials.

I'm running kicker components in the fronts and co-axles off of an Alpine inline amp which is nice, also have a short throw 12 sub running off a kicker amp. I'm very satisfied with the results, being all in for sun $1,000. TBH, after i deadened the doors it sounded even better.

+1 for Rockford-Fosgate. I’m still on the stock wiring and it sounds amazing.

Polk are good. Pioneer TS-A6886R are probably the best cheapies.

5x7 and 6x8 use the same mounting. There is more room in the back for a deeper set of speakers. Not every 5x7 or 6x8 speaker will fit the front.

I swapped all mine for Alpine Type R. Added a 5 Channel and 10" Type R Sub. Sounds great to me. My only complaint is I should have dynomated the cab. But system rocks loud enough for me.

If you are keeping the stock HU and not adding an amp then find something that has the lowest RMS for power. There won't be much of a difference in brands when running off the stock HU as it puts out jack shit for power.
