So periodically over the last few months I've noticed the upper speaker on the front drivers side start to rattle. When I use the fade controls to isolate to front left it is definitely that speaker or speaker area.

Question is, if a speaker is blown, is it either blown or not blown or can you have a bad speaker that intermittently rattles/hums and then goes back to normal function or should I be pulling the door panel off and looking for loose bolt or fitting or something that is causing the rattle? (To me it sounds like a blown tweeter rattle)

Second question, if the speaker is going, what would you guys recommend for a replacement? I wouldn't be doing an amp or sub or new head unit, just new speakers and hopefully a decent upgrade over whatever they use in the basic stock system.

If you get new speakers make sure you get mounting brackets.

Are the brackets something I have to source separately or would most car audio stores have the brackets for their installs?

Depending on the shop. Some will custom make them.

I bought brackets from taco tunes. Took awhile to get but made install easier.

They're great speakers and amps, and Marv has been incredible to deal with. Marv won't sell you a product he wouldn't put in his own vehicle. Not to mention the craftsmanship on his speaker baffles and sub boxes is "second to none".

    Save time and money.
You dont need brackets for the larger bottom door drivers.

Cut out the stock driver and the spider (plastic support arms). Screw new driver to the remaining housing of the stock frame. Then bolt the whole thing back in.

I threw some 5 way 6x9s in the door like this, disabled the stock tweeter, and its been great for a few yrs now. ********* horror stories have been around for awhile.
