Hey guys, I'm planning on upgrading my speakers and adding a 500 watt amp. For the front doors would you recommend a 6.5" or 6x9" midrange/woofer? I'm looking at Kicker, JL Audio, Hertz, and Alpine. I have tweeters coming and have JL Audio 6.5 coaxials from a previous project for the rear doors.

I am happy with my Trail Grid Pro 6 speaker Kicker bundle. From what I've seen on here, you'll want to get the amp in at the same time, or upgrade the head unit, for the best impact. Hoping to get in some sound deadening soon to cut down on other noise.

6.5" or 6x9 for the front doors? Any advantages to one versus the other?

I have 6x9 Morels Tempo's in the front door. I deadened the doors and they sound awesome. Running a Audio Control LC4.800 to them. Def go 6x9's and add some sound deadener to the doors while you are in there.

You will get more midbass with the 6x9 and more volume with the power you are running.

I'd stick with 6x9 in the doors. Bigger speaker has the potential for a fuller sound. 6x9 is basically the stock size, I wouldn't switch to a smaller speaker.

I've already installed DS18 Tweeters, would a crossover be required for upgrading the 6x9s or is that in the stock harness?

What kind of budget do you have for this upgrade?

Infinity Kappa's are my go-to for general recommendations if you wanted to replace them all. Else get matching JL's to the rears to keep the tones the same. I prefer round speakers always to oblong.

    Never Kicker, ever. Lol.

I don't really have a budget, I've been looking at JL Audio, DS18, Alpine, etc.

Is there a crossover in the stock system/harness? I've seen the tweeter and front door speaker replaced without adding a crossover. Does an aftermarket crossover need to be added?

Nope. I put DS18's in my dash and a couple of weeks later put Kicker 6x9's in the doors. The doors put out the full range.

JL make some decent components as well as some of the Kicker KS models. Its going to make a diff as to how you treat the doors as far as sound deadening and how much power you run to them. Just treating the doors alone can make a huge difference when running low power. I treated my doors and changed the headunit to a Kenwood Exelon model before installing my components and amp. Just that alone brought the OEM speakers to life until i had time to complete the install.

When it comes to picking out speakers you have consider the type of tweeter you want, metal will be brighter and more teeny sounding vs a soft dome that will have a smoother natural sound. There are a lot of things to consider when picking out speakers. If you are running low power, a very efficient speaker will make a big difference on how it sounds with lower power.
Couldnt find the pic of the complete inner door shell covered but i also treated that heavily around the speaker area to help with dampening.
