    few things here and there.
    Hey y’all.

Im looking for some pointers here. Im not really savvy with audio repairs, so any advice is welcome.

I just got my truck back from the body shop. A deer ran slam into my door / fender, busting the window, mirror and requiring a new fender. Luckily that was all fixed and it’s looking good again. However, the lower door speaker sounds busted. I know it wasn’t like that before, but insurance body shops are always quick to be dismissive. Especially if there’s no hardline proof it wasn’t like that before. So.. looks like I’m gonna buy myself a new speaker.

I know that I have a 6x9 setup, but other than that.. I’m really not sure what to buy. I’m unsure what connectors I need to be aware of, and I’d rather get it done right the first time round.

if anyone done an upgrade or replacement on their 2nd gen I’d love some recommendations on parts, etc.

I think this “86160-AA440” is the correct part number for OEM, but I’m unsure.

anyway, thanks for the help, y’all.

If you put the cheapest speakers you can find in, it’ll be an upgrade. Yes the stock speakers are that bad. When I replaced mine, I posted them for free, nobody wanted them. That should tell you something about their quality. I think I finally threw them away but I’ll look if you’re interested.

Haha dang, well.. I’ll keep that in mind! When you replaced yours, was it complicated? To be specific, did you need any adaptors or anything?

I mean… I’d totally take a stock one though if you still had it lmao.

Crutchfield.com is the best place to get replacement speakers. They will give you the adapter and plug and play cables. There is a Youtube video on how to take the door panel off. It is easy.

I second Crutchfield. In January I upgraded fronts with some Kicker 6x9 KSS series.

Still have stock head unit & no amp.....wow, what an improvement!

If you are going to replace your speakers, add some sound deadening to your doors. It will make a world of difference with anything you put in there. Going with a better quality speaker and leaving the stock OEM radio will still limit your sound improvement. You do have 6x9's in there but some people go for the smaller 6.5's as a replacement. You also have a tweeter at the top of the door so if you go with a replacement component set, you would really want something to put more power to them such as a small amp. Some people go with the Kicker Key amp if they dont want to do a full system with larger amps. They have gotten great results with the Kicker amp and it doesnt take up a lot of space. There are several writeups on it in the Audio section

I second @Waasheem comment that ANY aftermarket speakers will be an upgrade to stock.

The first question now is how much do you wish to invest in your upgrade? If it is just basic speakers, Crutchfield will be your place to shop. They will include mounts and adapters necessary for your install. If you looking to go all in (high end) but simple to install, OEM Audio Plus is a very good option. Everything comes in the kit, and the install process is about a 2 on a scale of 1-5. The instruction videos are top notch.

I have gone both routes. The OEM Audio Plus is a fantastic upgrade in sound quality, optimized for your stock head unit.

What kind of sound deadener and where on the door did you put it? TIA Cheers, Dave

I used Noico. So take the door panel off and cover any other areas inside the door itself and around the speaker. You don’t have to have full coverage, just any areas that stand out. I put several large pieces on the outer door skin. Maybe this pic will give an idea
You can see the silver Noico sheets

Definitely a good idea. I wish I did it when mine was apart. So I get the occasional coffee can full of marbles noise.

Take the door panel off is quick and easy. You could add some to all 4 doors in a few hours taking your time. I used a heat gun to heat up the Noico but a hair dryer will work as well

Get a set of door panel tools if you don't have any. They really do work nicely and you won't break as many connectors. If you do the front doors follow the tips in the Youtube videos about the sail panel white clips. Otherwise you will punch them into the door and likely lose a few.
