I blew a speaker in my old Cutlass. It was a rear deck speaker. I wired the replacement backwards. I had no bass when the balance was neutral, but great bass when the balance was put to the right or left. I knew the replacement was out of phase. Swapped polarity on the replacement and I was good to go.

@trdracing5, if you haven’t touched one side, you may try trial and error on your new speaker. If you have them flipped, you won’t get any bass…

The observed phase angle changes as a function of distance from the driver and as a function of frequency. As such there is no correct/incorrect polarity to wire the speakers, what matters is that the phase is tuned the best it can be given the set of speakers and choice of what frequencies are most important to preserve at the listener's location. This usually means wiring all speakers with the same phase, then flipping phase of the various L&R sets of speakers for optimization (e.g. wire front and rears all the same in a 4-speaker setup then reverse both fronts and check for improvement). Then lastly try flipping the sub phase if present.
