Not sure what the prior owner did but are the speaker to speaker mount fasteners supposed to line up with the plastic bulge holes in the mount?

I took both sides apart and there are long black sheet metal type screws drilled into the speaker mount (by which I mean the plastic sheet that is mounted to the interior of the door and the speaker then slides inside). Any thoughts on what the proper placement is and what fasteners should be used between the speaker and the holes with red arrows below? Is that a Toyota part or is there a particular length and pitch of screw I should use?

Yeah the stock speakers use those holes/bosses, looks like you have an aftermarket set of speakers already and they used really long screws.
A small sheet metal screw should work in the bosses, use a round head screw, maybe #6 or #8, about 1/2" long. i would get several flavors and find one that is snug but doesn't blow the plastic apart.

If the holes are stripped you can go one size up but risk blowing up the plastic, so may have to slightly drill out.

Thanks much, I appreciate it! I have procured an assortment of round head screws and am eager to try them out this weekend to see which will fit well into those plastic bosses without breaking them and without looking as ugly as those black sheet metal long screws. Thanks again.

Worked out well with some stainless screws, the tabs/ears on the speaker are breaking but it holds tight still barely. Thanks for the help!
